I Know this may be lame, but when the same thing happend to me, the cure was to use a very short push on the original remote's button aimed at the new remote.

I'm using a Dell Axim PDA and I'm having mixed
success with DI4000 STB.

I've downloaded a number of ccf's for this box
and I can get the digit keys and the on/off button
working. But I've been unsuccesful in getting
the "OK" and Navigation buttons to work (using
the codes straight from these ccf's)

Now others with this STB and a Pronto have obviously
had success - hence my question - Axim/PDA-IR
problem??

Or am I just stupid and missing something obvious
(like the Pace box is useless and there's no point
beating myself up about it!!). ANy thoughts why
some codes work fine but the "utility" ones seem
to fail. I know that the ultimate answer would
be installing the red-eye but 'er indoors will
complain that it "just don't look neat and tidy".

It is actually possible to fit the Red-Eye inside the STB. Of course I couldn't possibly condone such meddling with the cable company's equipment...! (P.S. Watch the exposed live mains on the STB main board)

Nudge, nudge. Wink, wink. Know what I mean guv.

Was rapidly coming to this conclusion and once I've found time to breath (busy life) I expect to bung an order in.

P.S. I heard from someone who "hasn't" tried doing this, and he reported that when he "didn't" put Red-Eye in his (sorry, the cableco's) STB, it had problems when directly over the IR receiver as the signal was too strong - I suggested either moving it off-axis or using a paper label to attenuate the IR - not heard anything back - either it worked or he electrocuted himself on the exposed mains PSU in the STB which he of course didn't take the lid off...;-)

I moved the Red-Eye as far left as possible and it now works 100%... I haven't checked this thread for a while which is a testiment to how good the Red-Eye is..! Pre Red-Eye, my wife was on the point of throwing my Pronto out of the door and me with it... Mike should get a knighthood..!

I'm interested in buying a Dell Axim... Has anyone successfully used the Red-Eye RC6 codes via TV Remote software on a PocketPC..? I want to make sure it will work before I go for this lower cost option compared to Pronto Pro...

If your pocket PC software can be programmed with, or be taught RC6 codes then it should work.

IS ANYONE USING A RED EYE WITH THE PACE 4000 BOX? my box works ok most of the time without the red eye but occasionally some channels just display a black screen when there should be something on, switching off the power usually sorts it out. i cannot work out if this is something to do with the use of the rc5 codes that is confusing the box of if its a genaral fault with the decoder? i cannot decide if it will be worth me getting a red eye

I doubt this is due to the remote code used. The best way to tell would be to use the original IRDA remote for a while. I know these STBs do get very confused if they see both RC5 and IRDA, so you probably want to reboot the STB first.
4000's have a reputation for being more flaky than the earlier ones, so I suspect it may be down to that. Some people have used a timer to power the STB down for 5 mins in the middle of the night to improve reliability.

Im a new user (1 week now WOW!!)and purchased Redeye after checking this ste when I discovered I couldnt do a lot with my cable box (Telewest 4000)

I did have to play about with the position of the eye and found I had to position it partially on the casing (About 2cm) before getting a consistent response .. Now working great. I add to previous endosements of Mike's device.

RichBournemouth... I had exactly the same problem with my Di4000-N (NTL) using the RC5 codes... I would occasionally get a black screen (with sound if I remember correctly???) but I could get the 'now & next bar' to work..?

I bought one of the first units direct from Mike because the (un)reliability of the RC5 was driving me mad..!

Just buy the Red-Eye..! It's a bargain

Both Telewest and NTL (in the UK) use IRDA - a variation on plain and simple Infra Red. IRDA enables more complex operations using data to be sent between remote and decoder box (although neither company have enough money to develop this facility!).

Consequently, virtually all remotes WILL NOT WORK with these systems. However, if you go to www.remotecentral.co.uk you can purchase a "red eye convertor" for about £30 and all is fine!

thanks for letting me know, this discribes my faults exactly. so is it far to say that STB is 100% fault free now you have a red eye?

RichBournemouth... The Red-Eye is 100%, once positioned correctly... It needs to be on the far left of the window, not directly over the reciever... I have mounted mine inside the Pace box (Di4000-N) so it's invisible from the outside..! I occasionally get problems with a three digit channel where it misses the middle digit, but I don't think this is down to the Red-Eye... If you're using a Pronto, then experiment with the delays, but I'm back to 0.1 between digits...

I don't know if you're NTL or TeleWest, but I've got a .ccf with all the codes and channel graphics ready to go... Send me a PM and I'll e-mail it if you're interested...

Trust me, my wife was going to throw the Pronto out of the window before I got the Red-Eye... It's probably the best £25 I've ever spent...

PS - Don't forget, you can then use a video sender (I bought the Philips VL1200) with a Pronto/Red-Eye and control your cable from a second room (I've got mine on a 14" in the bedroom - no wise cracks..!)...
