Remember that the only reason you would ever want to turn the STB Off is if you're using this to control source switching on the TV SCART output - the STB draws no less power when 'off' as it continues to decode the video stream. All the 'Off' function does is blank the display, switch off the UHF modulator and deactivate the source select line on the TV Scart socket.

thats exactly why i need the 'OFF' command. i have a panasonic telly and when the STB is switched on and the tv is already on the picture appears onscreen without the need to select the correct AV input

Hi,

I have just purchased a Marantz RC5000i from AmazonUk, (I am just awaiting delivery), and had been intending to use it to control my Philips Widescreen TV, A Roadstar TV/Video combination set, a JVC Video and wait for it, - my Telewest Digital cable box, which is a PACE Di1000T.

I am confused as to whether or not I will be able to get my RC500i to work with this cable box.

Can someone let me know what the position is please, becasue I have found some threads here (which go back as far as 1999 a bit confusing. :-)

Hope someone can help and or advise.

Thanks

octavian

Octavian - you will need a Red-Eye To allow the RC500 to control your Pace box.

I've been using RedEye with my Pronto RU940 (TSU2000)
and a Telewest Pace 2000 box and I'm getting some
strange problems. Every now and again, well fairly
frequently, I'll use my Pronto to control the
STB and it seems to go a bit bonkers, scrolling
through several channels, opening and closing
the info screen, scrolling all over the place
when I'm in the TV guide.

I'm experiencing the exact same problem with the 2000 and Red-Eye, occasional crazy channel scrolling, as well as missing the odd button press as reported by Sebby.

I inadvertantly discovered that the Red-Eye works somewhat better for me when it's not attached to the cable box, but instead is allowed to dangle in front of it at a 45 degree angle pointed up at the STB. Apparently the infrared receiver must not be located in the same position as it is on the 1000 box.

I'd be curious if anyone is able to figure out exactly where it is, and whether perhaps this has something to do with both of these problems.

(Incidentally I'm on NTL and not Telewest. Oh and using Sony RM-AV3000 universal remote.)

The 'scrolling channels' thing has so far only been seen on a few TW 1000 boxes, and was fixed with a firmware change to Red-Eye. Only early units shipped direct by me had the affected firmware version - all units shipped by LetsAutomate have the updated firmware and this problem has not been reported since, and has not been reported on NTL boxes with any version.
Anyone seeing this problem with an old RedEye please contact me on info@redremote.co.uk & I'll arrange a firmware update.

If you're interested... It's possible to mount the Red-Eye inside the Pace box behind the window and run the cable out through the bottom of the front panel... Obviously not endorsed by Mike Harrison or NTL/Telewest, but is does tidy up the front panel..!

In a previous contribution to this thread last year I explained how I had a PACE DI1000N STB (from NTL) and that my Pronto (RU940) didn't work due to the IRDA standard used.

I have managed to force a new STB out of NTL, it is PACE DI4000N. However, the engineer left me with the orginal remote handset saying that it was exactly the same as the DI1000N handset. Obviously, this handset still pumps out the IRDA codes which don't work from the Pronto even it learns them ok.

All of this is nothing new. However, I have read Mike Harrison's excellent website about RED EYE and it appears that with the DI4000N I don't need the RED EYE because it will accept the RC5 IR standard. However, I don't know what the RC5 IR codes are for the DI4000N.

Does anyone have a definitive list of the RC5 codes for the PACE DI4000N that I can copy into the Pronto and get the STB working from the Pronto. I understand that there are still some buttons for which the is no RC5 code, e.g. interactive button, BUT the clean IR codes for any of the other buttons would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

It's the 'i' (info) button, not interactive that you lose with RC5.

Tris.. Save yourself some grief and buy a Red-Eye... The RC5 codes don't work properly on the Di4000-N..! If you must try it, then only use the Pronto and never the original remote... If you use both then the STB will go crazy... It will probably go crazy anyway... Have fun..!

I'm using a Dell Axim PDA and I'm having mixed success with DI4000 STB.

I've downloaded a number of ccf's for this box and I can get the digit keys and the on/off button working. But I've been unsuccesful in getting the "OK" and Navigation buttons to work (using the codes straight from these ccf's)

Now others with this STB and a Pronto have obviously had success - hence my question - Axim/PDA-IR problem??

Or am I just stupid and missing something obvious (like the Pace box is useless and there's no point beating myself up about it!!). ANy thoughts why some codes work fine but the "utility" ones seem to fail. I know that the ultimate answer would be installing the red-eye but 'er indoors will complain that it "just don't look neat and tidy".

the DI4000 uses RC5 codes. If in the CCF these codes are as RC5 codes (i.e. the HEX string starts with 5000) then PDAWin will not be able to handle it. The only ones that should work are the ones that are in a traditional HEX string

Are you sure? According to the info at PDAwin.com the CCF can handle learnt and RC5 codes but not RC6.

And for example this code works:

5000 0073 0000 0001 000a 0006 (6 digit)

but this don't:

5000 0073 0000 0001 000a 0057 (OK button)

Mike.
