From the instruction booklet:

There is an auto search mode on the Mitsubishi BD-512 (quote):-

"Power-on the device to be controlled.
1). Press & hold the SET key.
2). Press & hold the POWER key for more than 3 seconds.
Auto search will begin.
Press any key to exit."  end.

It doesn't say what should be selected in the TV1,TV2 etc. area, so how does it allocate it.....?? And if you do this for more than one device does it overwrite previous auto-search results or what?

I haven't tried this yet and I've no idea what will happen, the instruction book
is not very good. I assume the TV or whatever will go into standby when (if)
the correct code is reached. I guess if you stop the search in time the code is
stored.

To find out the code number the book says this, and I quote:

To display the CONTROL CODE for a device-
1). Press & hold the SET key and press the digit you want to display (1, 2
or 3).
2). Release the SET key.
3). Count the number of times the LED indicator flashes; this is the digit
number. If the LED does not flash then the digit number is zero.

If anyone successfully carries out an auto-search would they please post the idiots guide to what happens as anything that enlarges on what the instructions say will be very useful.

The following is word for word from instructions for another option called "Quick Search" :-

"If you are unable to find the correct code for your device in the BRAND CODE LIST, then you can use this procedure to search automatically for a code.

1.  Press & hold down the SET key, press the device key (TV1/VCR etc).
The LED indicator will be ON.  Release the pressed keys.
2.  Press the SET key again and release it.
The unit is now in QUICK SEARCH mode, and the LED will keep flashing.

{The direction of searching can be changed by pressing the SET key}
3.  Point the control unit at the device you are setting up and press the POWER key.
If the device operates, check the rest of the functions such as VOL, CH+/-.  If the device cannot be controlled repeat the instructions above.

To change the direction of search, press the SET key.

To leave the search mode press the device key and the LED indicator will go off".

End.

Make of this what you will.
Any feedback on successful completion would be much appreciated.

do you have the instruction book? and are you saying that none of the codes listed for Thomson or Thomson-Ferguson work?
If so and the search methods produce no results either, then I think BD-512 has run its race and lost.

Hi all :)

I saw this thread a while back and, as I had a couple of these remotes (always handy to have spares), I figured I'd bang the instructions out and send 'em up for Daniel to approve for addition to the site, or not, as the case might be.

I haven't had a reply yet so it may be just as well if I make 'em available? I made a spreadsheet out of them and was thinking of doing an Access (bleuch) database too. The sheet, primary instructions and an image of the front page of the 'manual' take up 146kB of .ZIP file.

Opinions?

Regards,

gary

this was helpful I used the setup process using searching as I gave up on typing in the codes. the process was to hold the set key and the equipment key eg tv1 (the led comes on) let go then press the set key again. your now in the search mode (led flashining) now just keep pressing the remote on/off key repeatedly, until the piece of equipment turns off at this point stop pressing any thing for 30 secs. when the light stops flashing on the remote then try the on/off button, if the equipment comes on try the other buttons and if you equipment works your there. If its not working don't give up try the process again but don't stop the first time the equipment turns off just keep going until it turns back on then stop.

I hope this helps

silly me, I'd forgotten you had already set up for TV & VCR, so the remote is still racing!

I can't think of any more suggestions for the Thomson though.

Hi

I also recently purchased a Mitsubishi BD-512!
It came with a tiny instruction booklet which
is very poorly produced, but the controller works
fine. Let me know if you still need help and I
will supply a .pdf of the pages. It will not be
great quality!!!

Does anybody know what the four coloured buttons three lines up from the bottom of the Mitsubishi BD-512 are for?

Cheers, Ken.

I think you'll find the four coloured buttons are for use with teletext to quickly go to pages in colours of the four buttons at the bottom of the screen.Do you know what any of the other symbols on the remote stand for. All the best Shirley
