I would like to congratulate everyone who entered The Great ProntoPro NG TSU7000 PCF design contest. Although there can only be three prize winners, everyone who entered did a fantastic job! I was particularly impressed by the broad range of creative designs, innovative “out of the box” thinking, high quality graphics and overall level of refinement seen in each and every submission. There were so many worthy entries, I'm just happy that I didn't have to make the final decision! Before we get to the results, first here's a little bit about the contest. The goal was to create a new, imaginative color design for the just-released TSU7000 remote control using the ProntoProEdit NG software package. All entries were voted upon by the Remote Central member base. The first place winner receives a 42” Philips 42FD9954 Plasma Television worth $5,999, along with a Philips ProntoPro NG TSU7000 color touchscreen remote control worth $999, for a total prize value of $6,998. Second place receives a Philips ProntoPro NG TSU7000 color touchscreen remote control worth $999, plus a Philips Pronto NG TSU3000 touchscreen remote control worth $399, for a grand total of $1,398. Finally, third place receives a Philips ProntoPro NG TSU7000 Color Touchscreen Remote Control worth $999. All prizes are provided courtesy of Philips! How the process worked: for complete impartiality, contest entries were arranged randomly, while the author of each entry was kept hidden from view. During the voting process, pages of entries were displayed on a semi-random basis so that all entries had several chances to be on the “first” page. To ensure the integrity of this contest, all voters were required to have registered on Remote Central prior to the start of the voting process. Voters were given a total of 5 equally weighted votes. A voter could not vote for a single contest entry more than once, and it was not required that voters use all 5 of their votes. Contest entry descriptions were provided by the authors. The submission stage of this contest ran from December 4th, 2003 until January 31st, 2004. Remote Central member voting occured from February 10th, 2004 until March 5th, 2004. GRAND PRIZE WINNER Entry #28  Votes:   9.9%  Winner of the Philips 42" Plasma TV and ProntoPro NG TSU7000 remote control! Unlike my TSU6000 CCF, this PCF can be easily modified with only basic knowledge of graphic editors like Photoshop or Paintshop Pro. It makes excessive use of transparent PNG graphics as well as multiple jumps. Thus, there are two simulated joysticks and an antique-style lever for VCR transport, including a record protection latch! The station logos can be replaced within minutes since they are simple bitmaps lying underneath a transparent button frame. Furthermore, there are controls for PVR, tuner, CD, lights and receiver. The welcome screen features animations and a help screen for both users and developers. Play with it and enjoy! [ AUTHOR: André du Fresne | DOWNLOAD ] SECOND PLACE THIRD PLACE Entry #22  Votes:   8.6%  Winner of a Philips ProntoPro NG TSU7000 and Pronto NG TSU3000! Chloe is a device oriented PCF for TV, DVD, VCR, AMP and LIGHTING. The file has a unique colorful 3D interface with transitional animations. Each device has a single page and makes use of the “firm” buttons, which are labelled on the LCD screen. Included is a template page for other devices or to flesh out included devices. All buttons have “delay” placeholders. Try it in the simulator to see the animations! [ AUTHOR: Tom Molstad ] [ DOWNLOAD ] Entry #34  Votes:   8.4%  Winner of a Philips ProntoPro NG TSU7000! Envision is a totally new way to look at the Philips Pronto. The first version encompasses a completely overhauled interface to the remote. Rather than stressing on unneeded functions, the minimal technical design makes way for increased aesthetic appeal. The typical TSU7000 interface was removed in a favor of a more user friendly environment. In the future, this design will be enhanced and made available. [ AUTHOR: Mike Ventimiglia ] [ DOWNLOAD ] RUNNER UP #4 RUNNER UP #5 RUNNER UP #6 Entry #13  Votes:   8.0%  This is a completely custom PCF, with an emphasis on navigation and simplicity. The top area of the design remains consistent from one screen to the next, making operation of the remote fairly intuitive. An "All Devices" button on every screen gives the user access to a given device within two button presses. [ AUTHOR: Brad Ledford ] [ DOWNLOAD ] Entry #2  Votes:   7.6%  This PCF is a modified version of the one I use on my remote. It has continued to change and be enhanced almost every day for two months! Most of the buttons have been redone several times to look right on the actual remote. Features are too numerous to list here! [ AUTHOR: David Shaw ] [ DOWNLOAD ] Entry #1  Votes:   7.4%  I have put a lot of thought into the layout of my PCF design and I think it makes good use of the Pronto NG’s color capabilities without being gratuitously flashy. I wanted to give the design a sense of spatial depth and for it to have an industrial feel, but I also wanted it to have a slightly surreal quality to make it fun to use.
