PHILIPS ANSWERS HOME CINEMA ENTHUSIASTS' WISHES WITH INTRODUCTION OF PRONTO PRO

The TSU6000 Features Color Touchscreen and 8 MB of Memory for the Most Powerful Pronto To Date

LAS VEGAS, January 5, 2001 - Building on the success of its first Pronto Intelligent Remote Control, Philips today announced at the Consumer Electronics Show, the introduction of its latest innovation in remote controls, the Pronto Pro TSU6000. The color touch screen addition to the Pronto line-up, the TSU6000 displays 256 high-resolution colors, has eight MB of memory and is IR/RF- capable. Together with the recently-launched Pronto TSU2000, the TSU6000 will allow consumers even more control and customization of their entire home theater system with one remote.

The Pronto Pro, which will be available in the second quarter 2001 for $999, has a database of infrared codes for more than 500 brands in 17 product categories, which allows Pronto to memorize home theater devices in seconds. It also has the ability to learn codes so that it can control current and/or future devices that may not be in its database. In addition to these innovative new features, the Pronto Pro has a sleek, cutting-edge design with a silver casing and comes with a recharging dock.

"Philips continually listens to consumer input on the Pronto and we've delivered the ultimate intelligent remote control based on their feedback," said Thorsten Koch, senior vice president and general manager, Video, Philips Consumer Electronics, North America. "With its enormous memory capability and color touchscreen, the Pronto Pro is sure to be on the coffee tables of home cinema enthusiasts across the U.S."

New in the Pronto Pro is the IR/RF capability, which will allow users to control infrared devices in cabinets or in other rooms with the simple addition of a Philips RF receiver (available as an optional accessory). The addition of a color screen allows users to take their creativity to a new level by customizing button colors, channel icons and even background color. A pick-up sensor, which activates the LCD screen upon lifting the remote, is another new feature for the Pronto.

With the popularity of Pronto and the development of large full-home automation custom configuration files (CCF), Philips included eight MB of memory to give its users the ability to expand their files without running out of memory.

Futuristic Customization and Advancement
Pronto Edit Software is now included in both the Pronto TSU2000 and Pronto Pro TSU6000 boxes. Pronto Edit Software enables Pronto users to let their imaginations take control. By synching the Pronto universal remote control to a PC, today's tech-minded individuals can program their Pronto to new levels. It allows users to import graphics such as channel icons or pictures of their A/V components. The software also creates an easy environment to create and edit macro commands, customize menus and layout the virtual buttons on the LCD screen enabling the user to control their IR devices with a single tap of the screen. Pronto Edit software can be downloaded from www.pronto.philips.com into a PC and then connected by a RS232 serial cable to a Pronto remote.

Best of Show
Not only was Philips Pronto Pro selected as a CES 2001 Innovations Award winner, but the judges also awarded it the highest score in its product category, making it a Best of Show honoree.

Pronto TSU2000
Currently available, the Pronto TSU2000 (SRP $399) is Philips' other intelligent remote control solution. With two MB of memory and a Universal database, the TSU2000 is a great home cinema companion for anyone, from a novice to an expert, to use.
