Hmm...I'm getting Weather Plus on 2.2.
And there might not be any Rogers feeds for awhile.
You haven't seen how bad it is down here. Almost everyone still is without power. Actually, our cable keeps going out for 4-5 seconds every 2 or so minutes.
Anyways, I'm getting all of the Buffalo OTA's without a problem. I'm not sure if they're at reduced power or anything, but I do get all of them.

Hello, I am new to the forums here.
I have been reading over the threads posted here but noticed that most people are in the Toronto area. I am in the southern part of Barrie and was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with signal strength this far north of the CN tower and Buffalo. It appears that most people here seem to like the ATi HDTV Wonder. Are there any other alternatives?
I assume the signal strength would be low for any of the american stations but CBC HD (Hockey Night in Canada in HDTV) is what I am hoping for.
Would love to hear your comments, suggestions and thoughts on signal strength. Thanks there is no reason why you wouldn't get CBC HD from your location with the right equipment. Your only 50miles from the CN Tower, and fortanately, CBC is much higher powered than all the other T.O. stations. get yourself a preamped CM4228, and make sure its up high and there are no nearby obstacles between it and the CN Tower, and i think you'll be surprised at what you get. people in Buffalo (who are farther away from CNTower than u are) don't have any problem with CBCHD with a good antenna. i personally, am 40miles away from the CN Tower and get CBC at a percect 100% all the time, its a superior signal. CTV is a 90% and CITY (which sends almost no signal in my direction) is 50% good luck

The key with all the signals on the CN Tower are they are directional to the North...
Also, WGRZ must have just had a signal problem with Weather Plus and/or decided to put their local weather coverage on the sub station. Looks good now...

Yes...they did put their weather coverage on both stations. It was like that on their cable feed (TW 114) also. They do that during major weather events (like this summer's tornado, and this storm).

Daniel, I see that in the channel list it still reads 39-3 as "UPN SD" instead of "CW SD."

I am in the southern part of Barrie and was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with signal strength this far north of the CN tower and Buffalo. I lived in Barrie before the CN tower was built in a basement room, above the hill between Bayfield and Georgian College. Using a rabbit-ears(vhf) and bow-tie(uhf) I could receive channel 9 snowy and only faint traces of other Toronto stations. I could also hear Buffalo FM stations sometimes. I think you could probably get channel 9 OK with an outdoor antenna. If the CN tower has improved the other ones to a similar level, you might be OK. Can you get channel 19 (TVO) and 25 (SRC). I think you would have to get fairly good pictures on these to get the digital signal. It comes from the same antenna but much lower power. The terrain is very hilly between Barrie and Toronto, so it will be much more difficult compared to other people getting comparable distances from other directions. Since you are in the south part, I'm guessing you are down very low, looking up at hills like the one the CKVR tower is on which will make reception very difficult This is a link to a CBC technical report about implementing digital on the CN tower. On page 15 is a map showing the coverage area and where they tested for reception. It's very low resolution but looks like they received signals in Barrie.

Daniel,
One suggestion for the HDTV Page... Why not have a 'Change Log' on the top of the page, showing the last 2 or 3 changes made by date? This way we can see what little updates have been made to the list, in a more easier fashion...

OMNI Channels: looks like PSIP is fixed.
I just rescanned, and both the OMNI channels PSIP is now mapping correctly on my systems (mimicking their ota broadcast analog channels)
On another topic: So, even the OMNI channels owned by Rogers Cable are now being broadcast digitally OTA. Canwest/Global - very, very dissapointed in their apparent lack of interest.

yep, expect to see TVO broadcasting digital before global.
very sad. i've never liked global, even when they do go HD, they won't show one show in HD that i can't already get from a Buffalo HD station.
i'd love to see a network like global go under, just because they are such a crappy network. what do they have? I'd take City and CFTO news over them any day.
the NFL games will be clearer on the original network via Buffalo, and the same for all those dramas that global just feeds from the US. At least the other networks have one or two shows they make themseleves

Global doesn't even seem to operate like CTV, which gets advanced feeds of programming and then plays them back... instead, they just pick up the "live" US feed the same as any US network affiliate and stick their logo on the screen - so we get TWO logos. And they have to reprocess the image to do that, so the quality isn't as good as the originating feed. They also seem to have poor sound; I notice everything has far too much bass on Global. On last week's episode of Shark (which I watched since the Buffalo channels were down) every male sounded like Darth Vader.

Daniel,
Should maybe add a note for WNGS and their application.
Got this today from WKBW in regards to the stations
[quote]WNGS-DT has not been approved by the FCC due to certain technical and channel location issues. The final plans for the DTV plant are undetermined awaiting these approvals.

I'll have to check it out... my receiver doesn't update that stuff automatically (I have to do a full rescan).
