Well, looks like WIVB was having trouble with their HD feed last night... when CSI started for several seconds there was only a "Loss of input signal" message in HD on the screen (their equipment's message, not mine), and then it quickly switched to the SD feed and stayed that way for the rest of the night.

I ended up watching CSI in HD on CTV, followed by Shark in HD on Global (via cable, although they have strange sounding 5.1, almost like the bass is cranked up too high).

Right this moment Rogers cable has *no* Buffalo HD feeds; I'm not close to my OTA setup to check it.

Is it just me, or are NBC, FOX, and MyTV dead? 4-1 CBS seems to be on low power, too. And this morning, ABC was on low power, but it seems to be back to normal.

Must've been one hell of a storm.

This is still happening today. I watched it for hours
last night and the second audio track was solid. Most
of the locally produced commercials and news were in HD
except "national" ads for Rogers products like cellphones.
Lots of HD content too except "Letterman" was an SD feed.
The CBS logo is in a different place that on the WIVB
HD version.

I have received this email from someone else today, but
don't see anything here yet.

"OMNI 1 HD is apparently being tested on UHF Ch. 64 as
well."

Woo Woo it's here!!

Last night my receiver scanned channel 64 into it's database so it now appears when I surf channels. About an hour ago, it wasn't there, but as of 15 minutes ago, its live with programming. As above, I have problems getting audio track 1 on my RCA. Audio 2 is there and is 680 news, the same thing as the sap on analog channel 47.

Sweet, OMNI 1 is working perfectly for me, too.

Further to my last message, I have just scanned channel 64 into my Samsung SIR-TS360.
The audio works normally on both channels. Both stations show up as virtual channel 1-1.
when I scroll throught the channels, there are two 1-1 entries. I didn't notice on the RCA as it has a menu item to turn off PSIP decoding. This causes the virtual channel table, schedule and time of day to be ignored and all channels appear on their actual RF channel. I normally run it this way as it locks up better.

P.S. with PSIP turned on, the RCA associates channel 17 and 43 so when I tune channel 17 analog, I get a program schedule. Unfortunalely, if it can't receive a good enough signal on 43, it won't display 17 at all. With PSIP turned off, I also receive another sub channel on WXXI 16. It is audio only from WXXI AM 1370 radio and does not show up with PSIP turned on.

My equipment seems to be having problems with OMNIs messed up PSIP:

My old samung TS160 STB shows 1:1 as OMNI2, but doesnt find OMNI1.
My newer Sanyo TV shows 1:1 as OMNI1, no sign of OMNI2 anymore - previously it was there on 1:1, until I rescanned now OMNI1 seems to have overwritten it.

I'll be patient until they've fixed their issues, I dont watch these channels too much anyway, but they'd be nice to have.

don't tell me omni 1 is lower on the FCP than omni 2. I'm getting awful reception on OMNI1 61-4 only about 25% but OMNI 2 is still rock solid 100%

why is this, and it better not stay like this.

I know my Sony receiver simply won't deal with identical PSIP channels. If one exists, it will ignore another entry (noticed that when I was getting 9-1 from Toronto *and* 9-1 from Rochester).

A little late, but tons of things will be down here. I just got power back (haven't had it since 11 last night). Most of the area is still without power...so Buffalo OTA will probably be spotty.
LET'S GO BUFFALO!!!

I'm receiving a strong signal East Toronto for both Omni 1 and 2. Ironically, my ATI tuner finished scanning and announced that 2 channels have the same number, so it assigned Omni 1 to 1-2 and Omni 2 to 1-1.

I am sure the PSIP will be fixed, the question is about what PSIP they will go to. OMNI1, aka CFMT, is notorious with Channel 4 although its UHF is 47. I would think they would remap to their UHF (I hope they dont try 4-1 and mess with my PSIP CBS). Meanwhile Omni2 on UHF is 69 but I believe it is 14 on most cable systems, again I hope they dont map to 14-1 and mess with my Fox. Both come in on 1.1 on my old Samsung t-151. Sometimes takes a second to kick in but really nice HD on the station and the 680 is on the 'French' soundtrack (I find it funny that on CBC-French their is no French soundtrack on my system, only English).

Well, at least WIVB had their HD working again tonight - although Rogers *still* has no Buffalo HD feeds on their network.

I just took a look and there was definitely something on 64-1, so I did a scan (with this HD receiver you can't actually tune a channel without scanning for it first) and was disappointed to see that the only 1-1 was OMNI2, and 64-1 didn't work. But I found OMNI1 listed under 64-2! :-)

Hello, I am new to the forums here.

I have been reading over the threads posted here but noticed that most people are in the Toronto area. I am in the southern part of Barrie and was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with signal strength this far north of the CN tower and Buffalo. It appears that most people here seem to like the ATi HDTV Wonder. Are there any other alternatives?

I assume the signal strength would be low for any of the american stations but CBC HD (Hockey Night in Canada in HDTV) is what I am hoping for.

Would love to hear your comments, suggestions and thoughts on signal strength.
Thanks

Barrie... I have serious doubts that you would be able to receive any HDTV. You're maybe 54 miles away from the low powered stations on the CN Tower, 101 miles away from Grand Island and 134 miles away from the south Buffalo stations.

With a big enough and high enough antenna, if you had any chance of anything it would be CBC-HD, CTV-HD and maybe CW-HD.

If you have access to cable, do you know if they offer HDTV in your area? That, or satellite, might be a better route. (I have a relative up in Beaverton and amazingly Rogers offers everything I can get in Markham...)

Does anyone else notice that 2-2 WGRZ is not Weather Plus right now? Says WGRZ-SD, wonder if that is temporary or not...
