I remember reading a while back the the small RS bowtie indoor antenna from sourcecc works very well (as indoor antennas go) - maybe give that one a shot, with their return policy you can always return it if it doesnt work. On October 2, 2006 at 00:06, Animelee said...
Aww, that's too bad, because NBC is the network I watch the most, too... Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU, Law & Order: CI, The Office, Heroes, My Name is Earl, Studio 60, Dateline, etc. ...

Combining multiple full-range antennas pointed in different directions is generally NOT a good idea for reception since you're merging good signals (antennas pointed at the transmitters) with an out-of-phase messed up version of a signal (antennas pointed away from that very same signal). The end result is a ghosted, multi-pathed mess that generally is very hard for receivers to deal with. I will have to concur, I tried using a splitter/combiner with a 4228 pointing to buffalo and a 4221 pointing to the CN tower and I would always lose CBC. All my other stations signals would also drop. Not worth it so I decided to use a AB switch instead.

Hey Daniel,
There is a LONG thread over at DHC that basically says that starting this upcoming Monday, CBLT (CBC) will broadcast all shows in HD 24/7 just like WNED does on their main channel.
Not sure if this is also the same for CBLTF (CBC French)
Another update to the charts I guess is coming...
Also any news on the CTS plans for HD?

jimdoo,
WNED-DT Buffalo broadcasts 3 different channels off of 43. On 43-1 they broadcast PBS-HD which is a national feed. On 43-2 they broadcast the local WNED feed which consists of local and national programming. 43-3 is Think Bright TV.

hmmm i actually don't even remember reading that on DHC. I do know their is a tread saying CBC is going 24/7 ie no off air during the middle of the night.
If what you said was true, it would be 24/7 HD/Widescreen. It will be many years before CBC shows 100% HD content.
WNED's HD channel is also 24/7 HD/Widescreen. They probably show about 50%-75% HD and the rest upconverted widescreen.

Something amazing just happened, and I owe it to my cat.
I have a longhaired cat, who in turn, creates a lot of dust. So I make it a habbit to clean out my computer's fans for dust every two or three weeks. Anyways, today, I decided to replace the wire at the back of the HDTV Wonder.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE. I am getting NBC loud and clear and practically any spot at a nice 66 to 74%, it depends what angle it is.
And my other channels, OH MAN. 7-1 (ABC) is coming in at 74% to 81%, 23 (CBS and TheCW) are coming in at a nice 85%, and the copy of that signal, 4 (4-1 to 4-3) is coming in at 66% to 71%. Even FOX, which I had to put on my bed to get before at 60%, is now coming in at 50% to 61% on top of my bookshelf, where I get all my other signals. o.o!
PBS is was always solid for me at around 66%, but now it's coming in at 73%, which is nice, but doesn't really make a difference from before, heh.
CBS has always been strong for me at around 85% to 88%, and it's just the same... kind of. Something odd kind of happened, and now it can dip to as low as 74% at times. Not that it skips or anything, but it's kind of odd that it didn't at least stay the same.
RadioCanada has gotten stronger -- from 64% to 71%.
CityTV, SunTV, and CTV are all about the same, at about 48% to 60%.
I can actually get a little bit of TBN now too, but who cares about that, LOL.
Still cannot pick up MyTV Buffalo at all, but the only good show on that network is The Simpsons at 7 PM, anyways.
Anyways, I just posted this to let people with the HDTV Wonder know: Never use that piece-of-crap cable that comes with the HDTV Wonder. I'm using the one that came with my ZHDTV1 indoor antenna to connect the HDTV Wonder to my 25db pre-amp, and then a $6 10-foot wire to connect the pre-amp to my antenna, which is on top of my bookshelf.
Thanks for all the advice I received, by the way. :)

Don't use the antenna that comes with the HDTV Wonder either, unless it works. ;-)

Ugh, it went back to the way it was before. I don't know what happened...
I don't use the one that came with the HDTV Wonder actually, I bought a ZHDTV1. But it's actually worse than the one that came with my HDTV Wonder, I may just order another one... Any suggestions?

animelee, you may have just coincidentally changed your cable around the same time as the tropospheric skip was strong, (i believe Saturday was a big DXing night) so this would have boosted all your reception.
also, note that MYTV is not currently on the air, but when the do go up, (which should have already happened) i believe their signal is easier to get than WUTV.

I am new to OTA HD and new to HDTV in general. I am picking up my new Samsung DLP tomorrow. I am in the 2nd floor of an apartment on the border of West Seneca and South Buffalo near harlem. Will an indoor antenna be sufficient?

Oh, I just read about tropospheric skip, that's probably what it was.
Oh well, I just ordered a Winegard Sharpshooter, should be here before Thursday or so. Most of my signals are reflected from a group of old homes about 45 degrees to the right, outside my window. So I just decided to get that antenna, since I read so many good things about it. Hopefully when I get it, it'll help get all the reflected signals easier.
I live on the fifth floor, but sometimes I wish I lived on the 11th floor...
