Another update for the "Toronto & Buffalo Area OTA HDTV Channel Map"

Re: "WNED is the Digital TVGOS (TV Guide) host for Buffalo" - as of November 1, 2012, this is no longer true. Rovi Corp asked for their gear back and WNED removed and returned it. Rovi Corp is exiting this line of business. :-(

Is anyone in the Toronto area having at least 50% reliability receiving WBBZ (67.1)?

I live in Nobleton and have an older deep fringe VHF/UHF antenna on a 48' tower... and preamp. ION (WPXJ) and WBBZ are only available during an inversion, and then I usually see more of ION than WBBZ. TVFOOL sez I should see a better WBBZ, but no joy. Could be VHF gain on my antenna is much worse than UHF. Before I try a new deep fringe channel 7 antenna, any observations or experience from others who have tried? Thanks!

I know about this, but *something* is still sending out TVGOS in Buffalo - I still have 7 full days of guide on my receiver.

Surely out of context and not on the proper thread but since this one I guess is read by almost everyone , here it goes.

CBC and SRC HD signals, that were ITC or unscrambled on C Band via canadian Anik F1 Satellite, are now scrambled and will stay that way if no pubic reaction happens. Well .... , we are not americans, were non of this would even be considered. For instance, PBS , the public broadcaster, who is merely funded in less than 500 mill by the fed gov unlike the 1 billion CBC gets from canadian taxpayers , on the contrary , trys hard to advertise to the masses that they are also free via satellite (btw on the easier to get , less expensive , Ku band) rather than adding the extra cost of encrypting their signals. Not to mention this all happens after the digital transition is finished and low power analog transmitters are shut down accross the country leaving millions without access to the flag station they pay for via taxes.

I dont know why ..... but ...... the word criminals comes to mind.

Daniel, pretty sure that's from CFTO. CFTO will carry TVGOS for a little while longer but it too will disappear by April 30, 2013.

But does CTV carry the guide for Buffalo zip codes? I'm still getting the Buffalo vs the Toronto guide, and the last time I checked CTV didn't have Buffalo-centric channels, and WNED didn't have Toronto-centric.

I lost the guide on my Pioneer Kuro, was using a Buffalo zip code.
Changed things to Postal code and guide did come back up from what I assume was a Canadian carrier. Too bad that it will all be dropped next year.

Hate to have to find some sort of on line guide and have to run my antenna through my PC to make things look and work well (if that will even be possible) Those small dongles available for recording off air TV are supposed to have a TV guide. But they are not very good, at least the one's I have played around with.

{OK, I can't find the original article I was quoting from but did use it in the past, on another site that bashes the CBC, one blogger claimed it was 2 billion.}

“Rural and remote regions will feel the heaviest blows because they often rely on the CBC as their primary media presence,” said Tyler Morgenstern with Reimagine CBC, a citizens group associated with the organization OpenMedia.ca.

Unlike their inspiration, the BBC, the CBC has to contend with a much larger land mass and other logistics that you don't get in a nation that can fit within Newfoundland and Labrador with 2.4 times the population.

then maybe this newspaper is lying [Link: huffingtonpost.ca]

maybe also the national post that claims 1.1 billion as well. [Link: news.nationalpost.com]

wow !, even the globe and mail ... [Link: theglobeandmail.com]

well this is an old 2008 article from the CBC , with numbers around 1 billion
[Link: cbc.ca]

Now if you may , Could you please refresh me on the definition of the word fallacy? My webster was confiscated back in havana , ten years ago.

BTW , I am not asking for anyone to cut their funding , in any case to increase it , since I do beleive they do have good quality and valuable programming (including their radio services) but rather for the CBC t ostop scrambling their signal , that as we can imagine is only receivable by just a few thousands that can have a 6 footer or bigger. Encryption equipment cost money and add to the operating costs.

Hi All
I'm new to this but here goes. I mounted a WineGuard SquareShooter( Powered) and mounted on my old Sat. mast which is on Chimney and aimed it 217deg. south towards Buffalo. I am at Westney Rd. & Highway 2 in Ajax after a channel scan I was amazed at the stations I get here is my list.(2.1/2.2/4.1/5.1/7.1/9.1/17.1/17.2/19.1/23.1/25.1/29.1/29.2/40.1/41.1/47.1/49.1/57.1 my question is should I expect more with maybe another antenna pointed more towards TO. and the other repointed towards BUF. what are your thoughts here?

Very good channels list pointing 217 degrees, even getting channel 9 which is VHF frequency. In my opinion, not much more to get in that direction, however, I would try a split 4 bay bowtie UHF antenna, 4 dipoles to 217 and the other to Rochester at 165 degrees, you may be able to pick those up too. If your line of sight is not blocked.

Had you a combined VHF/UHF antenna, the only channels you might also pickup is 67-1 and 11-1 at 217 degrees.

But its your choice if additional almost duplicate channels are worth the try.

All I watch is OTA and internet tv subscription in 720p, total package less than $30 a month. No Bell, Rogers or Shaw!
