We were up at canal lake and we received CHEX in HD . The hockey game was in crystal sharp 1080i and the signal never faded.

I'm trying a Bell 9200 PVR. The manual says it plays OTA in low res. I'll keep you informed about how it works with recordings.

I Use a Bell AND Dish Network ViP722 DVR that have the input on the back for an off-air antenna. I probably use them to record 75% of my shows. You can do everything with OTA through the receiver that you can with any of the satellite channels. The resolution isn't any worse than the dish HD channels--actually I think the OTA channels come in a tiny bit better!

Bell doesn't identify what's on the antenna channels in the guide, like the Dish Network receiver does: It lists what's on 95% of the American OTA channels and I can select a show and create a timer. Otherwise it's called "Digital Service". In which case, you can create a manual timer to record a show.

Love my DVR's! Can't remember the model of my Bell box...think it's a 9200: It's right beside my ViP722 and they look identical.

How right you are. As I'm sure your aware, it's not about signal strength but about the signal to noise ratio especially when the noise is a ghost producing reflection.

Been an electronics engineer and an antenna buff for many decades as a ham radio geek. Once made a 24 foot long yagi for 2 meters like this which freaked my mom out no end. Made the house look like a sailing ship but worked magic. Same typical 13 Db gain.

Low noise amps can help but they won't be much better than the front end of your TV and don't help with reflections. Mostly useful for long transmission lines or feeding several recievers. They won't have a much better signal to noise ratio than the front end of your tv, possibly worse.
And of course 12 Decibels equals a linear gain of 16X.

Got my Digiwave 2190 online Walmart - $40

The bell 9200hd wants to be on a Bell account before it will work with OTA signals. It stops dead on the info screen and will not go further.

23-2 "Bounce" is appearing as a WNLO subchannel. No sound or picture yet.

Also looking at 23-2 (black screen, then blue but ID as 23-2 and "Bounce") in Richmond Hill, Yonge & Hwy 7, most Buffalo chns solid, however, last little while trouble with PBS chn 17 comes in and out yet chn 23 is solid like a rock, even chn 2 no problem. Anyone else having issues with PBS.

Both chn 23 & 17 located on Grand Island.

PBS was solid here in Stouffville until about the middle of May. The signal quality on my Samsung TV shows 25+ db when the reception is normal, and 15 db or less when it breaks up or disappears. I thought this was because of the heavy fog in the spring, but since mid-June it has been happening in all types of weather, day or night. Sometimes it also affects all the US channels, particularly when there's a lot of solar flare activity, but the major problem for me is that PBS is unreliable for any time-shifting. I can't find any information that would indicate that they are working on any equipment. I contacted CITY-TV a couple of years ago about a drop in signal quality, and they told me that they had to reduce power because people were working on the CN Tower. They didn't make it public then, so it's possible that WNED is in a similar situation.

Edit: removed non-related comment.

Are you kidding? I was hoping to use my BELL HD box as a PVR for high res OTA signals, this is after I drop Bell TV.

Added Bounce to my tuner lineup.....not much impressed.

As for reception, I live in Welland and working at the new Target, they can receive CHCH, I cannot. I can receive MeTV/WBBZ and they cannot and there's only five minutes difference between the two locations!

If you keep the activation card after discontinuing bell service, it might still work with the OTA signals.

Just a small update for the HDTV Chart, CKWS in Kingston has now gone digital. There is a note on the Brighton re-transmitter that it was delayed.

Also WNLO now has Bounce TV as a sub on 23.2

Also WHEC, MeTV sub has launched.

Also CHEX in Peterborough has been live for a bit now. CHEX Oshawa is not yet broadcasting. You can also add WBXZ-LP from Buffalo onto that list, as they have a CP for RF 34 and WDTB-LP, as they have a CP for RF 28.

Bell has applied to up the power on CHCJ-DT (Hamilton) from max ERP of 26000 to max ERP of 390000! The average ERP goes from 13000 to 15000. They also want to raise the transmitter from 107.7m to 110m. They said they can't come to a lease deal with CHCH for space on their tower so they want to make the Bell-Nexacor tower their permanent tower.
