Build a windows 7 computer with Media center, add a bunch of tuners with remote, install lots of big disks, use xbox360's for the whole home experience as an extender. No set top box will come close to it.

...or you could buy a Channel Master PAL 7000. Google it or you Tube it. The remote looks very farmilliar...if you have Dish or Bell.

Can anybody recommend a DVR/PVR for OTA HD?
Thanks,

I've been re-thinking my hardware needs.........for under 100 bucks (at newegg [dot] ca or com) of getting the next generation HD Homerun for which there has been third party s/w development to co-ordinate with use of MyHD tuner. Then I would have three tuners in each room (for schedule conflicts) or just three in one room, then would put the second MyHD MDP-130 back in its' box as a backup unit, they're not made anymore, the 130 is old but was designed for the mid 2000 era, with its' own hardware MPEG-2 decoder, so was made to save that old computer from going into the junk yard, you could keep it until it died, like my old P3 finally did in 2008.

Now in today's three, quad, six and even eight core CPUs being affordable(recording a transport stream is easy but it takes power,at least a dual core, to play back) you can still "roll your own", customizing to personal taste. If desperate, you can use Windows Media Center but there are other M$ compatible third party utilities, you can read about them at the same time you google/yahoo the HDHR. Some even integrate with Infra Red USB pickups for use with universal remotes. I don't know which myself because with the Play List Manager utility made for the MyHD, I plan on controlling those files with the MyHD remote. If you like Linux, the HDHR can run there also, since most Linux users are on the forums of their favourite distros, solutions can come from the other members of such who have already done so.
Again, info on that can usually be found on the same searches.
Then you have the pride of building it yourself and bragging rights when you have friends over.

Another change to the map for the near future - The Global transmitter in Paris on channel 6 will move to channel 17. The CRTC approved it today. Global indicated they'll complete this within 6 months from now (which means mid-July at the latest).

Update for the listing page. CIII Paris has been approved by CRTC to move from 6 to 17 and to change the technical parameters of that transmitter by increasing the average effective radiated power (ERP) from 4,000 to 97,000 watts (maximum ERP from 4,000 to 165,000 watts) and decreasing the average height above average terrain from 311.3 to 272 metres.

For those who sometimes got a DX of WXXI-DT on 16 from Rochester in the west end, that will probably end now. If you are in the east end or living right by the lake and get WXXI, you may have more difficulty.

Hi
I was wondering what outdoor tv antenna you would recommend for getting signal from the CN tower in West Seneca NY. (64 miles?) I wanted to watch the CBC Hockey Night in Canada.

From google maps you're not too far south from Buffalo, Fort Erie or Port Colborne. Many people use Channels Master's 4228 antenna had seem to have good luck with it. Outdoor is better than in the attic and the higher you can get (tower or on the roof) is best. Channel Master Antennacraft and Wineguard make traditional style antennas designed for the "digital age" that might get you more distant stations, but I have to basis for comparison, other than the antenna I'm using is almost 20 years old and still works great.

Check out a local computer store or Radio Shack.

The best antenna I have installed so far is a 4 bay antenna by Electronic Master. It has a preamp on the antenna and comes with a small in-line booster you connect behind your tv. Right now, this is the antenna I recommend.

Good luck!

CHCH-TV 11 began broadcasting their news in HD this past Saturday.

Time to get rid of the green screen and get a real set--it looks worse than ever--overall newscast looks good though.

CHEX says they will begin broadcasting OTA in spring 2013...

"OTA Update: As of December 2012, we have just received the corporate go-ahead for the capital purchase of OTA digital transmitters in Peterborough and Kingston. There are site surveys to be done, installations, and modified fibre feeds linking the transmitter sites, but we should be HD OTA by early spring 2013. 16:9, and full HD for our news program productions will commence down the road, and will depend on other upgrades."

CHEX (Peterborough) is scheduled to go HD OTA on May 9th. Time to update that chart.

Has anyone else noticed that channel 36 from Hamilton is now much stronger signal in North Toronto around Hwy 7 & Yonge Street. Was barely received before, now solid at over 60% signal.

Started about a week ago.

Yes, their transmission site appears to have moved. I am in Brant county and to get maximum signal I have to point my antenna in the direction of the other Toronto transmitters (CN Tower). Before the move the signal was from the east (Hamilton).
50 ' tower with VHF & UHF antenna at the house
45 ' tower with a 91XG yagi with a channel master preamp at the workshop/garage and a Samsung digital receiver.

Apparently CHEX in Peterborough flash cut today. Has anyone been able to see it? Daniel likely needs to update the chart.

Also worth noting WBXZ-LP (HSN affiliate) remains in analog from Buffalo on RF 56. They have a CP for an LD on RF 34.
