HUH?

Considering what my arch-nemesis Rob Nicholson is doing/wants in Parliament, no this isn't a free country.

This morning I received a rather strong signal here in Albion, NY (between rochester and buffalo), coming from the direction of Buffalo, on 50-4 - just a signal with no viewable picture attached to it. It was gone a few minutes later. Any ideas what it is/was?

What was on 50-1? :)

There was a temperature inversion on this morning, north of Toronto. I didn't have my TV running, but could hear plenty of DX on my UHF ham radio. Guessing you could've been hearing/viewing something much farther away than Buffalo.

Looking for opinions about preamps - Winegard 8275 Pre-Amp vs. Channel Master 7777. The Winegard has a couple more db gain from what I can tell. Anyone have an opinion, or experience?

Thanks,

Ron

Last night I received WXXI for the first time this year. It only had HD, World and Think Bright channels. WXXI SD is gone. The Think Bright programming is the same as WNED except for IDs. The quality was better than last years four sub-channels.

P.S. WXXI analogue 21 is still on with so-called nightlight(lite?) service running a loop about getting DTV and how to hook up a converter box.

It is probably WQLN Erie Pa. (PBS)

Now that ION and WNYO's move back to 49 has been going for a couple of weeks now, how's it working for you guys??

For me, WNYO is MUCH weaker. I've haven't seen it in days and there were nights this week where Rochester/South Buffalo was booming in. I'm almost due northwest of their transmitter, about 80 miles away.

WPXJ/ION is a hit-or-miss station for me. I can't get it reliably - about 50% of the time I'd say. A little worse than analog 51 was - I got that maybe 67% of the time.

It appears WPXJ is down, and has been down since late last night. Its been reported over at AVS Forum. Not sure when they will be back up.

Daniel,

An addition for the chart. WNED broadcasts two radio stations as auxiliary audio channels in their ThinkBright sub channel (Classical 94.5 and WNED 970 AM).

For Rochester's WXXI they also are doing this. Straight from DHC "As for WXXI, it's a bit of a different story. Their WXXI AM 1370 is on a separate subchannel (21.7) which is not listed in the virtual channel table. So not all tuners can get to it -- only those that ignore their tables and inspect the streams directly."

Cheers!

Also, is it time now for the map with all the distances and such to have the US channels with their analog stations removed?

Also, CFMT (64.1) streams 680 News as an auxiliary audio channel.

The map had actually been updated - where the channels are now broadcasting and identifying themselves on the same channel that's the only number shown; but where they're still using virtual channels I continue to show both.

I've updated the table with the radio stations, also spent a bit to time to figure out what other alternative audio streams are offered (same audio as the primary stream but in a different format):

5.1 - 2.0
9.1 - 2.0
17.1 - 2.0
17.2 - 1.0
17.3 - 1.0
44.1 - 1.0
57.1 - 1.0

Other channels either only have a single audio stream, or list a silent secondary stream.

That was already on there :)
