because there are two people that i know of in the lockport
area that CAN receieve city-dt. meanwhile we got and dspredator
with nothing between the CN Tower and his CM4228 but a
nice lake breeze, and nothing.

I cannot even get a blip, and I' am 12 miles northeast of Lockport. 1 mile from the lake shore... The Toronto channels like 66 SunTv are strong, but no city-dt 53.1

By the way, I did a scan last night to see if anything was new on the airwaves... and nope, no Global.

Do you have a link or documentation to that? It may help
those of us in Niagara understand why getting CITY is
hit and miss.

I probably didn't elaborate enough in my previous post :-) If you download this file
and unarchive it, one of the things inside is a file called "Appendix 6A Maps Proposed Coverage Contours.tif" It is a large picture showing a map with a circle on it like the circles on Daniel's station list, with the transmitter's coverage area. In this case, it has a large dent in one side, towards the southeast where the signal is hard to receive. All the other Toronto applications have maps with perfect circles or very close, indicating an equal signal in all directions. There is another file inside the archive with an almost identical name. That one is just a map with the CN tower in the middle.

Rob50312 is right, the dead zone is east of Buffalo. I was not being specific enough.
The map also shows potential interference zones from the proposed WPXJ transmitter and is for CITY's original power of 550 watts average.

CITY 53 application.

markrpopp/2sheds - exactly the same for me, no WNGS, there is a signal but nothing but blank screen. annoying, as I'd gotten into a routine of watching "cheers" every night !!

re: WNGS-SD 7.2, it's the same for me, markrpopp. I definitely
have signal, and get program name and rating information
displayed, but no picture or sound, as at the time of
this post.

Very good, thanks. I will keep a copy of the map for future reference. If you zoom in on the map to St Catharines, the range can't go more than a mile inland from the lake around Vineland and crosses St Catharines right at Port Dalhousie pier. Even though Thorold is adjoining, it is way out of the range shown. So close, and yet, so far away. Sigh!!

I here 7-2 is off because the station and transmitter must meet requirements from the FCC such as the emergency broadcast system etc.Similiar sub channels have been dropped across the U.S.

Well, after reviewing the documents in post 950, with the maps, I am convinced that I have a problem. I am here in Newmarket, well within range (according to the maps) of the major Toronto channels, but I only get CBC, CTV, and CBLFT. I have a 4884 antenna and 7775 preamp. More than enough, I think, to get them. Can anyone recommend another antenna?

Ron are there obtructions to south of your antenna. The weak Toronto digitals are not going to penetrate anything. The lower the frequency the easier it is to receive.Newmarket has low ground if your north of the ridge. How does analog 57 look.No antenna will make any significant improvement. You need more height and check you aim while watching your signal strength on 53 or use analog 57 to aim but its much stronger but uses the same broadcast antenna. You need a crystal clear signal on 57 with no ghosting to get city-dt.

Well, you're pretty much getting the strong ones. The only ones currently on the air that you're missing are City and Sun, and City is quite low powered and Sun is at a higher frequency than CTV so its wattage doesn't go as far.

Could you check the model of your antenna again?

Sun TV (CKXT 66,15) had their "Canoe Live" news in HD yesterday. Unlike CITY and OMNI, they used graphics across the whole width of the screen and showed it letterboxed on analog 52. They also had a promo for their "Grill Room" sports show in HDTV.

Sorry, you are right - 4228 not 4884.

So I guess I need to get it mounted higher and tweak it. Almost seems like too much work vs. just getting it on digital cable. But I most likely will.

Ya i saw that too, i was thinking 'what???' its suntv, nothing is in HD. Although is good, the HD i really want to see on SUTV is movies. If they get setup like the HD movie of the week or something, then i'd actually start watching the station.
