Yesterday I was watching WNED HD and thought the picture was sharper than I had seen for a long time. No motion blurring either. Very excellent quality. Partway through a "Smart Travels with Rudy Maxxa" show about Croatia, the picture and sound were disrupted for a second and when it came back, the picture looked fuzzier, the same as it has previously for weeks. I wonder if they are experimenting with their expected new encoder and just switched from 1080i to 720p. Did anyone else see anything? The receiver I was using has no obvious way of displaying the mode and always shows HD as 1080i (my other one does but I wasn't using it:-(). Both HD and WNED subchannels had the id "bug" missing all evening but WNED looked as fuzzy as ever. Think Bright had a snowman "bug".

My kid told Me that WNED's subchannel 43-3 was clearer than it's been, I cant tell. I will try to watch (Smart Travels) tonight. I have the same problem here, My receiver just show's that it is sending the signal to the TV at 1080i.

Hi, I'm wondering if someone was trying to get HDTV via airway in Guelph or around Guelph. What kind of equipment do I need. Thanks a lot for any hints.

Probably a little off topic: dvd recorders with integrated atsc tuners are almost here: Not HD, but they should record a half decent picture. I can live with that. I accepted VHS/S-VHS as being less than on air quality for the benifit of timeshifting and watching one channel while recording another. I've been waiting a while for these to hit the market - I had begun to thing they were never going to show up. [Link: reviews.cnet.com]now I need to wait a while more for the prices to come down :-)

where are the new channels supposed to be that were coming this month? Why haven't OMNI 1 and OMNI 2 been put up for good. There test signals were great, now lets get on with it, why do they have to put the test signals up so soon, get everyone excited, and then just wait off again until they are actually required to be broadcasting again.
Also, what's going on with CTS-DT? I've sent emails to the engineer a few times, but i'm not impressed at all with him, he hasn't replied once yet. When I sent emails to both WNED and WUTV's engineers, they not only replied, but explained the entire situation to me and what I could expect in the future concerning their digital signals, as if I was another engineer, and not just a viewer.

I'm not sure what the deal is with OMNI. They're owned by Rogers, right? I guess free off-air reception just isn't a priority for a cable company...

Here are my results from Ridgeway with a CM4228/CM9521a mounted on my garage roof with 75' of non-preamp'd RG6. Built in ATSC tuner in my Hitachi 42HDT52 which requires a 20% signal to lock:
2-1/2 NBC 77-78% (126') 4-1 CBS 77-78% (126') 5-1 CBC 30-32% (330') 7-1/2 ABC 77-78% (126') 23-1 WNLO 72-74% (20') 29-1/2 FOX 78-80% (20') 40-1 CTV 0-1% (330') No picture 43-1/2/3 PBS 78-79 (20') 44-1 OMNI2? 0-6% (330') No picture 49-1/2 MyTV 77-78% (20')
Since lowering my antenna mast slightly, CBC was affected the most as the previous high was about 38%, but they all seem (slightly) lower across the board today, perhaps due to weather. No real surprise that CBC is the only TO station I get, but I can't pick up SUNTV out of Hamilton, which is kind of surprising.

Regarding OMNIs, Rogers may not have the budget to put back the signals to air.

if they were putting out the test signals, that means they purchased the transmitters, have the space on the CN Tower/FCP what else do they have to pay for. I guess the power that sends the signals out, and leasing on the CN Tower, but it seems to me like they are basically all setup, and just need to turn the transmitters on again.

OK, having to do this all over again since IAW went down, (why not go to usenet? at least with a newsreader run locally, a post can be saved to a drafts folder, not so with web-based forums).
Well I wanted to report a problem with receiving WUTV but yesterday seem to have cleared up and now receiving at 49-64% signal strength on MyHD pc card.
My results are kind of opposite of Mr.Tonks, Both WGRZ are steady at 80% or better.
CBC at 38kwatts is beautiful, CFTO should take their lesson and up their power to the same.
Aything less than 17Kwatts I can't get, did I get ripped off (500 $ CDN) from Peninsula (sp?) Attenna?
Can't wait for CH!
Mr Tonks, is there any way you could change your web form so I could alter my user name?

"Crossroads is expected to be operating by January 30, 2007"Hmm, I have no reason to believe this will actually happen, since that would mean all of a sudden, it appears tomorrow morning. They don't seem to even want to acknowledge you can pick their signal up off-air in analog format. Do you think the CRTC will notice/care? I doubt it... they seem to pansy up to whatever the private broadcasters want/say. But --- I have near zero reason to ever watch them, DTV or otherwise! :) Has anyone tried calling their engineer? His extension is shown, here.

Precisely true, and here's proof [that we didn't really need] that they've purchased the new transmitters -- look at the top left of page 2: [Link: appliedelectronics.ca]Why doesn't somebody contact one of the people, here, and ask about the OMNI DTV situation?
