I was on the Marantz site this weekend looking around and saw that they no longer have the RC5000i/RC5200/RC9200 Touch Screen Setup software listed.

This is a bad idea. I realize they are no longer made and sold but you'd think they could follow Philips' lead and at least leave the software in an archive section.

I hope I missed something. Others, please have a look to verify.

All I can say, is Mr. Dave Stoneburner, what are you guys doing?

Yeah, I noticed the same thing and agree with Lyndel completely. A $1250 remote, and 4 years later you don't even have the last software/firmare revisions available. Horrible customer support. I guess "Music Matters" but customers don't. Maybe the Marantz folks that sometimes lurk here will take the hint.

For anyone else, the software and firmware updaters are still available, here, in the files area, I suggest downloading it and burning it to a CD. Although Tonto is available online, it does not include the emulators and default ccfs for these remotes.

Good Day Lyndel!

You give me credit for more authority than I actually have. Our marketing department controls the content of our website. (Marketing is also who decided not to include the software disk in the remote control box.)

Anyone contacting Marantz via the support email link is responded to in kind with a link to Touchscreen setup download link.

I take it that you mean by this that you are Dave Stoneburner (and you might remember our conversation where I told you that Stoneburner is English for the German Steinbrenner)....

Okay, so you do not have that much power. Do you have the power to write a memo to marketing telling them that there is a large contingent of installers out here who will occasionally need that file to, say, add a MARANTZ receiver or a MARANTZ projector to an existing system?

The only legacy thing that really should not be on the site would be a history of how the Tushinskys raped Saul Marantz of the company...totally legally, you understand, back in the late fifties or early sixties.

BUT WAIT ! THERE'S MORE!

I ran across an RC5200 for sale with these links, both of which have the RC5200 and RC9200 software on them as of this editing (Saturday March 12, 11:15 p.m. Left Coast Time):

Useful Marantz links for this unit:

[Link: marantz.com]

But I don't immediately see how to get to these pages via the links from the current home page. Perhaps these pages are just hanging around from the old site...let us know if they actually will let you download the files!

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

To be fair, they're also all posted here, and I don't plan on going anywhere (heck, I've got ProntoEdit and RC5000 Setup v1.01 from 1999 still available!)

I know that's not the same as the *manufacturer* having them available, but it's something. :-)

Come the day we see a Pronto making an appearance on Antiques Roadshow.

Intermission mode on...

"Oh my, yes, I haven't seen one of these in years. If I remember my antique technology guides correctly, it was an electronic device used to manually control household appliances, such as two-dimensional picture boxes, magnetic tape medium recorders and electric fireplaces. You see, this sheet of glass would display crude colorless symbols telling you what you'd actually be doing if you actuated it; this was all well before cranial implants became standard, of course. In fact you'd actually need to point it right at the item you were controlling, I don't think you could get more than 5 or 10 feet away from it - laughable - although that was indeed an improvement from the first models that tethered you directly to what you were trying to operate! I see you've also brought along the manual - in mint unused condition - and an old coaster with some sort of customizing program on it... I don't think that's going to be of much use these days, unless you can somehow find a computer as old as this is to run it on! Well, I suppose we come to what it's worth - have you had it appraised? No? Well, it's fairly rare to come across one of these in such good physical condition, and the old technology nick nack segment is becoming quite popular these days, for restaurant decoration, collages and the like, so I think if one were to come up at a well-advertised auction with the right buyers it should fetch upwards of - oh my, did it just turn off the camera?"

So you'll be using "feet" in North America then.
