I have had it with AppleTV’s. I have had a run of issues with video passing through an AVR to a display. We mostly use Marantz and Samsung TV’s. I just did a house with a Rec room and media room. The Rec room has a Marantz NR1510, AppleTV,
A/V Pro balun and a Samsung TV. It works fine. The media room has a Marantz Cinema 70, AppleTV, A/V Pro balun and a JVC projector. That system worked all day while we were setting the room up and hanging the screen. The customer called me tonight and he said he has no picture. Ugh. Is there something I’m missing. We have done plenty of AppleTV’s throughout the years without having issues like these. Did Apple change something, do I need to set something up differently? I’m kinda of stumped. I have done all the troubleshooting steps I can think of. Changed cables, baluns inputs on TV and AVR, tried another TV with no luck. It sometimes works if I bypass the AVR but not always. Thanks in advance for any help. I don’t get stumped very often but this one has me pulling my hair out. I have considered switching to ROKU’s.

That and have you also set the ATV to “never sleep”?

Roku - "HDCP error - unplug everything"

I use Roku all the time.

Those are frightening when a client calls...

I have used ROKU since about 2008 and have used several models- since I switched to HDMI with these, I have seen a few messages about TV resolution, but it always worked after a few seconds. Never seen a persistent failure on mine or had a call from a client.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

Make sure ATV is set to never sleep
Make sure no audio or video settings are set to auto
If this is the only source into JVC projector, Set "auto input source" to on

We have done this set up a bunch of tomes with zero issues.

It is not common, but it is not my favorite kind of phone call to take. It may be the first time that Brent has told me, not the usual, "Use this magic box and it will fix it", but, "Try this, then try that, then try this…" 😳😳

Nobody likes trouble calls when they sold and installed the equipment but it's the business we're in, so....

The times when I go to a clients' house and see that something doesn't work but they never called are the ones I don't like.

I just had a similar issue. System was installed and worked fine for about 6 weeks or now or more. Apple TV, Yamaha RX-V4A, Samsung S90c. We had to swap the 70m AVPro extender for a 100m and all that was in stock locally was a binary 660. One day, no video. I went out and started the process. Unplug everything. Bypass AVR, get picture. Interesting. AVR in mix, no picture. No HDCP led on extender. Tried new cables. Tried another Apple TV. It worked. Must be apple TV? Plugged everything back on as original, voila. Worked. Until the next morning. So I grabbed an AV Pro 100m extender and swapped it in. Worked. I'm crossing my fingers this solves it. Not too mention it syncs way faster. But I know better than to trust it. Lol

It was nice to have this client make a puke face when he found out we put in a binary extender though. He had binary HDMI distribution at his other 2 houses and had headaches constantly. He finally bit the bullet and updated to all AV Pro gear. No issues since. He told me to get that binary thing outta his house. 🤣 thank you, I will!

Extenders can be funny (or not).

I worked at one house that had a no name extender. I thought I was having extender issues and tried a Binary, no picture. I had a Zektor in the truck, before AVPro it was kind of the cream of the crop, black screen with it as well. I think I power cycled and did something else from a distance to restore the pic, but out of those three extenders, the only one I could get to work was the no-name extender.

Now we have ARC extenders. Some guys have used dozens and dozens of those Binary 260s without a hitch. I have only needed a handful, and the Binary have worked. Except at one house feeding a Sonos AMP from a distance, the sound kept reverting back-and-forth from the TV to the Sonos AMP. I put in an AVPro extender that did ARC, and it has been working since. Just that one house, the Binary would not work, tried another Binary, reterminate the ends, all the usual stuff. Nope.
