Hi there!

I have a TSU9600 trying to connect with 2 RFX9600, each one connected to the home wireless network thru an access point.

- RFX9600 ID-0 connected to a d-link DI-624 wireless router, with internet access;
- RFX9600 ID-1 connected to a d-link DWL-2100AP access point, in the universal wireless repeater mode;

The wireless is unsecured, because when I try to use the WEP protection, the TSU9600 doesn't attribute any IP.

The TSU can control any of the RFX's, as long as they are connected to the DI-624! The other one, connected to the DWL2100 just doesn't reply!!! Then I tried using DHCP with this extender and the TSU coudn't find the IP address of the extender.

I put the extender in the "configured through router" mode and I could access it by PC (wireless connection), so i think the network is ok!

Anybody has any idea? First i have to try to communicate with both the extenders, then i will see what to do with the security issue.

Thanks!

Which firmware versions are used in the DI-624 and the DWL-2100AP ?

From the D-Link support website:

What devices can the DWL-2100AP repeat?

Routers Firmware
DI-524 (revA) 1.02 and higher
DI-624 (revB) 1.28 and higher
DI-624 (revC) 2.28 and higher
DI-774 (revA) 1.25 and higher

Access Points Firmware
DWL-800AP+ (revA) 2.00 and higher
DWL-900AP+ (revC) 3.07 and higher
DWL-2000AP (revA) 1.56 and higher
DWL-2000AP (revC) 3.10 and higher
DWL-2100AP (revA) 1.01 and higher
DWL-7000AP (revA1) 1.04 and higher
DWL-7000AP (revA2) 1.04 and higher
DWL-7100AP (revA) 1.00u and higher
DWL-G800AP (revA) 1.02 and higher

The wireless is unsecured, because when I try to use the WEP protection, the TSU9600 doesn't attribute any IP.

This likely means you have other WiFi issues as well.

The TSU can control any of the RFX's, as long as they are connected to the DI-624! The other one, connected to the DWL2100 just doesn't reply!!! Then I tried using DHCP with this extender and the TSU coudn't find the IP address of the extender.

As long as the extender is in "configure via cross cable" or "configure via router", it is in configuration mode, and cannot be used by a control panel. You should put the RFX9600 in "Use mode".

Anybody has any idea? First i have to try to communicate with both the extenders, then i will see what to do with the security issue.

Likely your problem is due to the firmware of the DWL 2100AP.

Sogliphy,

Thanks for the tips! I'm gonna verify the firmware version and post the results here tomorrow.

I don't think there is any problem with the WiFi network since other computers can connect normally. The only problem is with the Pronto. But after I make everything work with the unsecured network, i'm gonna investigate that too...

I switched to configuration mode just to test the network. After that I switched back to the "use mode". Thanks anyway!

I'll keep trying here, any news i let you know. Thanks!

Hello people! I solved part of the problems!!

I looked the firmware of the DI-624, the version is 4.01. But while searching the d-link site, i noticed something weird. Although I can configure the IP address and the subnet mask in the DWL-2100AP firmware, the manufacturer says that it only supports the 255.255.255.0 subnet mask! So i changed my network's IP from 10.1.1.xx to 192.168.0.xx, with the subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Like magic, it worked!!!

Doing this, I managed to use fixed ip in the TSU9600 and everything worked fine. The Handoff between the two APs is a bit slow in the pronto, it has to completely loose connection with the first one to connect to the other, but I don't think this will be a real problem.

Now, the only issue reamining is about the security!! I just can't make the Pronto equipments talk to each other when the security is activated. If i configure the TSU with fixed ip, it says that the extenders doesn't reply. If i configure DHCP, it finds the network but the wifi icon appears with a question mark over it, and doesn't attribute any IP.

I appreciate any help! Thanks a lot!

Are you using WEP passphrase or Hex Key? If the former, make sure that the casing on the value is the same in PEP and Router config as passphrase is case-sensitive(IIRC) and leading/trailing spaces for sure cause a mismatch.

ie. "helpMe" passphrase on Pronto is not the same as "helpme" or "help Me" or " helpMe".

If the latter, have you verified that the hex key is correct (case is not specific here as the value is converted to binary for transmission from Pronto).

FYI, with:

CF.activity().wifiEnabled = true;

You can force re-association (no need to first set this property to false). However, this will momentarily drop the current WiFi association.

Thanks Lyndel!!! i'm aware of that, and i'm pretty sure the passphrases were the same.. anyway, i switched to the HEX key (using the same key, just translated to HEX) and it worked... weird huh? The important thing is that it works, so cheers!!! Thanks a lot!

Yeah, that helped a lot! I wasn't really worried about this problem, as long as the system worked, but now you said, i added this code:

if (delay == true) { delay = false; }
else
{
  if (System.getNetlinkStatus() == "wifi-level1" )
  {
    CF.activity().scheduleAfter(1000, changeStation); // 1 sec. delay, then
                                                      // new verification
  }
}

function changeStation()
{
  if (System.getNetlinkStatus() == "wifi-level1" )    // signal still weak..
  {
    CF.activity().wifiEnabled = true;                 // ..switch station!
    // GUI.alert("Re-associating...");
    delay = true;                        // Skips the next verification.
  }
}

I put that code in the page script, executing it every 5 seconds... the variable "delay" is declared in the activity level, and it skips the next cycle because while the pronto is associating, it remains showing the last signal level, what caused it to restart the wifi interface over and over again...

The Handoff procedure is far better now, Thanks!!! I'm sure there is a much better way of doing that, because this way I have to keep pooling for the signal all the time (I'm willing to try the "System.addEventListener()" method, but i still don't know how it works for sure), and if the pronto stays in an area where both of the APs' signals are weak, it keeps restarting the wifi interface either...

If anybody can give another idea please be welcome, but i'm already happy with what i've got, i really appreciate all the help! Thanks again, Sogliphy and Lyndel!

Does anyone have a solution for the absence of an IP address when wep is active? I spent hours trying to make my new 9600 connect to the netork and finaly saw the comment about no IP with wep. I had already discovered the absence of the IP address. I turned off wep and all is well, except I have no security. I have tried a number of options but if I activate wep, the pronto gets no IP. I am using a 128 bit hex key.

You may have already checked this but I was having a simliar problem. Here is what fixed my issue:

1. Set the Advanced WiFi settings to a single AP and select the channel your router is on.
2. Use WEP only and set the passkey as a Hex key with only numbers
3. Use DHCP as your IP settings

It took me several hours to figure this combination out but was finally successful.
