Hooked up my G-68 RS-232 today to the 9600 base using a female to female null cable. Linked my buttons to my 232 code page the light on the 9600 flashes on port one indicating communication. I have checked and re-checked the 232 string: Using 2 character ASCII format followed by carriage return, (CD = CD Input), 9600 Baud Rate. Everything looks as it should as far as I can tell, However; The Meridain does not respond. Am I missing something very simple here??? Or have I got my bases covered.

Best Regards, Joe.

A few questions-do you have any other RS232 on the RFX9600 already working? If not, have you updated the firmware in the RFX9600? Are you sure that it (the meridian) needs a null cable? The Lutron processors do not, Netsreams does, so that is always a possibility.
Not familiar with meridian protocol so i cannot help yoou there but it sounds like either a command string problem, firmware (which does affect 232), or cable pin error could all be possible causes.
Hope you find out what it is.

1) No.
2) I am using the lates software version 1.0.33.
3) The Meridian does use a null cable.

Thanks, Joe.

So you have verified the pronto extender pin out vs. the meridian TX/rcv config? If so, and the port info etc is correct in the .xcf, it sure sounds like a control string issue. Otherwise, I am not sure where this could be going wrong. Other than typos in strings, pin error, and non-updated firmware in the extender, I have not encountered any RS232 issues in my system, with my dealers, or in the field so far.
Wish I could help. Philips has a new call center in the US for Pronto, 1-800-233-8413 (Option 1) or sent via email to prontosupport@philips.com, you might also give them a try. Keep us posted.

I control my Meridian G68 and 598 through serial control and the pronto 9600........Had a few slight teething problems to start with, but it is rock solid now. Updating firmware solved problem with volume control. Added some delay as some controls were repeating with just a single button press.

could send you a copy of my config file if you wish......it may just highlight any possible errors you have in yours.

After checking every possible problem it turns out "Radio Shack" sold me a straight through cable instead of a null cable that I specificly asked for #!*!!#*!!...... I didn't even think to check the box for a "null" description. SHAME ON ME... I will let you know how I fair when I get somewhere and pick up the right cable. I am confident it will work fine with the "RIGHT" cable....

Best Regards, Joe.

I have been trying to get a firm confirmation on this as well. What is the RFX9600 serial cable spec? Straight-thru or Null (crossover?)

Dave,
This depends on the configuration of the device being controlled. As stated above, Lutron is a straight cable, Netstreams is a null. Differs based on manufacturer pin config for TX/RCV/GND
