I've done only the URC MX800/MX850/MX900 for clients, but I finally got around to mucking with the MX950 (had ordered a demo unit way earlier this year, but only just got around to setting it up ... doh!)

I was surprised to find that the MX-editor installs MS "ActiveSync" (though it's referred to as AvantGo Connect in the control panel?) ... why is this s/w necessary, or is it? Can I cull it, or can the MX950 not be programmed w/o it?

Also, I was annoyed to find that the MX950 editor appears unable to import URC's MXD files ... true, one can open these up in the universal browser, but it's a pain to drag & drop all device IR codes this way. This is really surprising - the MX900 editor can import MXD files (although you'll lose the first column of LCD buttons!) ... why would URC not allow the MX950 to do same? (BTW, I'm running up-to-date s/w via LiveUpdate)

The MX-950 runs on Windows CE, hence the need for ActiveSync, as does the MX-3000.

The MX-900 runs on URC's properietary software.

As far as importing files from earlier remotes, that's probably something that has been asked of URC more than once!

AvantGo Connect used to be called Mobile Link, and is used to connect a server to a mobile device. In this case it, as well as ActiveSync, show the MX-3000 as the device, even though it works with the MX-950. Both use the same Windows CE OS, and are identified as an MX-3000. It probably shouldn't be labeled with these labels, but that's the way it is!

I've seen mislabeled references in URC's software before, so it might very well be relabled in future revisions, but since it doesn't affect the connection between the MX-950 or the MX-3000, I'm not sure they'll worry about it.

FYI, I uninstalled ActiveSync 3.7 that was installed with the Editors and that removed the AvantGo Connect icon in my control panel.

I downloaded ActiveSync 4.2 and installed it and was still having trouble connecting my MX-950.

So, I uninstalled it, downloaded ActiveSync 4.5 beta2 from Microsoft.com, and installed it, and it works like a charm.

No AvantGo Connect icon.

Again, FYI.

Incidentally, to share some info re: my MX950 experience - when I'd first hooked up the MX950 to my system's USB port, Windows detected the remote, but listed it as an "unknown device;" further, the MXEditor couldn't establish a connection w/the remote (e.g., using the firmware function).

After scratching my head for a few minutes, I pulled the USB cable and plugged it into another port on the PC ... sure enough, this time Windows detected the device as an "MX-sumthin" and MXEditor could communicate w/the remote w/o issue.
