FYI, I uninstalled ActiveSync 3.7 that was installed with the Editors and that removed the AvantGo Connect icon in my control panel.
I downloaded ActiveSync 4.2 and installed it and was still having trouble connecting my MX-950.
So, I uninstalled it, downloaded ActiveSync 4.5 beta2 from Microsoft.com, and installed it, and it works like a charm.
No AvantGo Connect icon.
