I won a T2C in the online training!
So I'm finally getting around to putting in an RP-1 for wireless goodness. I want to sense my TV state. I have a spare coax going from the TV to the rack. Any cheap and easy solutions?

Not sure you can do anything with video sense on the RP1. I believe it is only for voltage sense. Could be wrong.
What TV is it?
Are you sure there are not discretes somewhere? Can flags solve your problem?

Well, yes, it needs a voltage applied to sense something, I was hoping for a cheap hack/solution that would give me some voltage from an audio out or something.
TV is last years Aquos 1080 LCD.
Discretes and flags will of course work, but I like to sense. I can always fall back on sensing the reciever, but the TV has the longest power on delay, and I would like to account for it.

Unfortunately, my TV doesn't have a monitor out. It has optical digi and analog audio outputs. I guess my post title is a little inaccurate - its not really video sensing I'm after but sensing of my video [display] device. Also I don't want to chop the end off of a perfectly good SPS1 for my [scrounged together] home system. :) I could always go with [Link: nilesaudio.com]but I don't want to put it on the front of the TV. In anycase its not too big a deal, just hoping somone had a nice simple hack for this.

I was stoked to hear my name, couldn't belive it. The light sensor on the optical is good, I thought of that, but I actually only have basic cable at home so I run it into the TV and run the opti out (via optical to coax converter) to the AVR for surround sound on my QAM HD channels. [Link: nilesaudio.com]would work too, but I don't really want to buy that - I have an 11 month old baby so money is a factor. Anyone have one used? Here's my baby girl:

Do you have a pic of your truck's interior after your baby girl got a hold of that Sharpie?
Been there. Her smile makes it all worth it.

Your daughter is adorable. I have a six year old girl, who in three months has gone from loving princesses and Dora, to nothing but Hannah Montana and High School Musical, and talks non-stop about Mitchell Musso (if you have a girl you'll know he's on Hannah Montana). Love every minute of it, cause it hits you like a freight train when they grow up so fast.
And now I'll take a poll of those reading.... doesn't he sound like lots of our customers? "I want it great, but cheap".
Just kidding, of course; I know exactly where you're coming from.

Why do you want to sense a TV that has discrete power?

Why do you want to sense a TV that has discrete power? Sometimes if a TV has a long warmup time (Like some Sharps & pansonics) and you need to switch inputs it makes sense. Why wait 5-8 seconds when switching? Yes, you could use flags, but the VS is bulletproof.

The RP-1 has no provision for a video sensor input, just a power sense. But in the dealer section they show how to wire a SPS-1 to the Power sense input, requires cutting the plug off of the sensor and wiring it in to power and sense
