I was stoked to hear my name, couldn't belive it.

The light sensor on the optical is good, I thought of that, but I actually only have basic cable at home so I run it into the TV and run the opti out (via optical to coax converter) to the AVR for surround sound on my QAM HD channels.

would work too, but I don't really want to buy that - I have an 11 month old baby so money is a factor.
