Try each code twice on your Yamaha receiver:

Well, I went through your list and none of them were able to toggle both on and off. Here's what I got:

Only On: 30376
Only Off: 31276 31476 31815 32061

Is it possible that there are older codes that are not displayed/offered anymore? I know it sounds insane, but I am certain whatever code I used to have in there really did toggle both on and off.

Sure, even the same code between models can change when it comes to UEI made remotes. What is the model of your remote?

It's an RC65RX.

You can try searching by the middle PWR key, but each time the receiver responds during the search, say turning off, press middle PWR key to see if it turns back on, if not, than continue pressing and releasing the CH key.

See it will allow you test a command during search, but only one key, before you have to move on by pressing CH UP key to continue the search.


1. av1 or av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 9 9 1, wait two blinks
4. enter 3
5. press and release middle PWR key
6. point the remote at the stereo and keep pressing and releasing the CH UP key, if and when it turns off, and after pressing PWR to see if it comes back on, and it does
7. press select to lock in code

Well, I tried twice... followed directions and never got the Yamaha receiver to power off while going through the CH UP. The first time I gave up after about 8 minutes of pressing. Figured I should be more patient if it's going through every single code so I did it again for almost 20 minutes(!!). No dice.

I found this forum in my search to find out why I can not program my second DTV remote to turn my Yamaha RX-V673 off and on. I programmed the first remote (RC65X) and entered the exact model of the Yamaha receiver. The power button on the remote cycles the receiver OFF AND ON and the volume button adjusts the receiver volume! The second remote is an RC65. It programs using numerical codes and I have tried all of them without success.

-Is there a way that I can retrieve the code that the RC65X is using so that I can try it in the RC65? I will gladly share the code if this will work.

-Should I just purchase another RC65X since it works and turns the receiver off and on?

-I am planning to upgrade to the Genie system in March. Will my RC65X work with the Genie box?

Yes you can blink back the code used in the rc65x remote:

1. av1 or av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 9 9 0
4. press the #1 key, count the blinks, it will be 3
5. press the #2 key, count the blinks
6. press the #3 key, count the blinks
7. press the #4 key, count the blinks
8. press the #5 key, count the blinks

Can the rc65x have a code the rc65 doesn't, yes. If the code was a upgrade code, only put into the remote by a hr24 or 34 receiver. This code isn't permanent, one reset and no longer in the remote. Both remotes have the same preset codes, just the rc65x has extra memory bank to load upgraded codes into.

I've currently got a Directv remote RC64R. I programmed it maybe 8 months ago. I've got a Yamaha RX-V773 (also a Panasonic PVT60). When I switch to AV1, I can power on my RX-V773. When I hit the DTV&TV off button, everything successfully turns off (DVR, TV, and receiver). Awesome!

The trim on the remote is starting bubble off, so I purchased a new remote labeled RC66X. I'm trying to program it to work exactly as my current remote. I've been thru every remote code suggested on my DVR remote settings, and I cannot replicate the functionality. Half of the codes can control the volume and turn the receiver off. But I can't find any codes that will turn it on.

Any suggestions on how to proceed?

What I definitely do NOT want to do is mess up my perfectly functioning current remote.

Did you try the steps in my last post to identify the code used in the RC64R remote? And than try it in the rc66 remote.

The only reason the av receiver is going off with tv is HDMI CEC signal sent by the tv. The directv remote doesn't directly control the stereo via the TV ON & OFF keys, just Sat's and Tv's.

I did as you said on my functioning remote.

I got the return code on the RC64R as 30376 (For people trying it, "0" returns as no response--took me a few tries to realize that and that I wasn't doing something wrong).

When I program 30376 into my RX66 remote, pushing the power button "Turns all Zones Off". It can also control the volume. But no Power On.

Codes from one generation of remote have been known to change on the future generations remote. You could switch the component boards between the remotes, old board with new outside case? When taking it apart there are 6 screws, two in the battery compartment, and four under grey bezel on the front of the remote.

1) I ordered a new RC64 remote, still available. I have another unit Yamaha RX-V475 that has the exact same issue.

2) I moved the pcb of my old RC64 into a new case.

There are really only several components to the device:

Black backing unit.
Logic board.
Silicone/rubber pad with buttons.
Switching unit at the top.






The RC64 has an extra screw holding down the logic board:

There were 2 critical differences between the physical structures of the RC64 and the RC66.


Where the extra screw is pictured above, has a raised plastic mount, not present on the RC66 panel:

I simply ground this down with a dremel:

Secondly, the silicone/rubber mat has a different type of button push for the “power” button:

To solve this problem, I merely kept the same silicone pad. I point it out because I wish I had known as it took a couple of disassembles to figure this one out.








And voila, my RC64 is now in a new and shiny case!

Final note for folks stumbling onto this thread for a search.


1) If you have a Yamaha RX-V775 or RX-V475 and a DirecTV remote, in order to program the remote to Power-On your receiver, you should use a RC64 remote (Definitely NOT an RC66), and program the code to 30376.

2) Powering off works fairly well with HDMI control, or you can program AV2 to Power off with most of the standard Yamaha program codes.

3) Volume control works with most of the standard Yamaha program codes.

4) Transplanting the logic board is a fairly easy process, altho not always completely smooth if going from one model to another.

Oh great remote control master... can you help?

I would really love any suggestions you may be able to provide me! I bought an "open box" Yamaha receiver, which did not come with a remote. I do not have it hooked up to a TV, as I really just want to for its surround sound- to play music. Our TV is mounted on the wall in another room. The problem is we have a variety of different speakers hooked up to it, which equate different power levels, and timing from each speakers. So I bought a calibration mic. Well I just plugged it in to discover I need a remote in order to initiate calibration. So I ordered a universal directv remote- after seeing a youtube video which provided me instructions on how to program a directv remote to a recevier without needing the tv controls. But, to my MASSIVE disappointment, it did not work. So, here I am again with an out of box receiver which sounds crappy, a calibration mic I cannot use, and a directv remote even thought I do not have directv service. Arg.

Any chance you might happen to have any suggestions? I tried some of your suggestions on the various threads, but I am not able to program the remote though the TV, so I have not had any luck programming the remote to code.

I do not see any recent threads, so I know this is definitely a shot in the dark... or maybe this is outside or your preview... But it's worth a shot.

I know this is an old thread, but in the hope of helping someone searching for an answer, I am adding this info that took me hours to find.

I have both a Yamaha rx-v373 and a Yamaha rx-v477 that I control with Directv remotes. I had the same separate on/off button issues, but through trial and error found a reasonable solution. Use code 30376 on AV1. This will turn it on and enable volume to be linked as Edmund has shown. Use code 31476 on AV2. This will turn it off. I lose the AV2 spot I used for my Blueray, but the control via dtv's remote is limited anyway. So, to turn on the system, slide to AV1 and hit PWR. To turn off, slide to AV2 and hit PWR. It's workable until I get it all on HDMI control.

Directv remotes are rc65rx and rc66rx.
