I am an NAD dealer in New York. The HTR-2 is an awesome universal learning remote, that works well, & has a sugested retail of about $99.00. The pin config in the battery compartment is for hooking up the remote to a PC so that you can save the memory of the the codes learned by the HTR-2 which are learned via head to head learning. The cable and matching software are provided to dealers at NO charge from NAD reps. After we teach this remote (head to head) we down load the config to our PC & keep it on file just in case the customer's HTR-2 has a problem and we need to up load the file to a replacement remote

The big deal for me with this remote is the ability to teach the remote beyond learn mode. I need to teach it discrete codes that my current remotes do not support. It appears the kit is one way to do that. Learning existing remotes and saving the config is nice but paying another $100 to teach it discrete codes seems too steep for this remote.

Well, I've tried taking a meter to the pins and
haven't come to anything conclusive. The pins
aren't numbered. They don't go direct to ground
(neg on the battery) so they must go through some
processing chip. Not sure how to map them to
the 9 pins of the RS-232. Two pins read -3 and
+3 with the battery connected but that doesn't
get me too far. Anyone else tried wiring the
pins in various combinations? I'm guessing since
they have an 8 pin connector that they are actually
using the flow control pins, or else they would
have gone with a smaller and simpler connector.

Any progress in your pinout investigation? I would like to make my own interface cable

Please, someone must have access to the upgrade kit for this remote and be able to post some details about the cable.

I haven't been able to determine any direct rs232 mapping. Could be I just don't have enough knowledge or luck or it could be the cable is more than just a cable.

I have come across this post a few times in the previous year etc....And its staggering....to see that you have not responded in giving others on this thread the info they have been asking for regarding pin configuration. Why don't you have the decency and consideration to do so?....???

Would that be the 5 minute rant, or the full 6 years?

Since the the lid has been removed from this COFFIN of a thread & in case someone actually cares, here is an answer.

The serial Connection cable from NAD has electronics built into it. It is NOT a case of working out which pin goes where.
The cable is used to program all of the NAD HTR / M remotes. Even with the cost of the cable this is still the cheapest remote with PC programming ability.
