I am an NAD dealer in New York. The HTR-2 is an
awesome universal learning remote, that works
well, & has a sugested retail of about $99.00.
The pin config in the battery compartment is for
hooking up the remote to a PC so that you can
save the memory of the the codes learned by the
HTR-2 which are learned via head to head learning.
The cable and matching software are provided to
dealers at NO charge from NAD reps. After we teach
this remote (head to head) we down load the config
to our PC & keep it on file just in case the customer's
HTR-2 has a problem and we need to up load the
file to a replacement remote

The big deal for me with this remote is the ability to teach the remote beyond learn mode. I need to teach it discrete codes that my current remotes do not support. It appears the kit is one way to do that. Learning existing remotes and saving the config is nice but paying another $100 to teach it discrete codes seems too steep for this remote.
