I am new to this whole Pronto thing and I have a question that may be answered somewhere within the 158 pages of threads, although I could not find it.

I am in the process of customizing my new Pronto and am trying to change/edit my system page and templates. The manual seems to say that this is as easy as working with a settings tab on the system properties, but my system properties doesn't have a settings tab.

I would like to get rid of the default system page (and templates) and replace them with a nifty set that I found in a configuration file that I downloaded from this site. Any suggestions on how to do this? Could it be possible that I have to start from scratch and build the file instead on trying to modify the default?

Open your PCF in Advanced mode if you have not done so already.

What the manual does not tell you is that you have to design your own graphics and then add them to your own buttons. When you do that, you assign the buttons 'Special Actions' for the appropriate system item control.

However, there are some items such as the battery icon, Activity Status item, that you MUST edit the ConfigEdit.xml file manually to accomplish different looks. Search for +3000 +battery +icon and you should find information as to how Daniel Tonks accomplished this feat for his TSU3000 config file.

Thank you so much. Man, this is going to be fun...based on your response, I assume that there is now way to simply replace my system page with another that I have downloaded? That would be much easier and I have found one that I really like the setup.

To accomplish that open the file that has the system page you like and delete everything you don't want from it(except the system page of course). Next, from the file menu choose merge file and choose your configuration, this will merge your file with the current system page. You will have to move your home page items to the top most home page and fix some links but this will give you the system page.

Of course, if it is just a background or something you like it would be simpler to just copy and paste the image.

Thank you very much. This is my first experience with a forum-type discussion, and I am astonished by the willingness of others to help a stranger. Hopefully, someday, I will know enough about this darn remote to be able to help others as you have helped me.

I have attempted to download, modify and use the .PCF file that D. Tonks has out on the R.C. web site and am running into some really weird problems. As background I am a veteran (albiet home only) programmer of Prontos. I have successfully installed two TSU-1000s in years past. I bought the TSU-3000 expecting much of the same. As before I took one of Tonk's files as a starting point and began stripping it down to a very simple user model.

Here's my first problem. Buttons/object keep disappearing from my screens. Especially the System Page (which Daniel has embedded two objects; a battery [upper right] and something else [upper left]), and the Home Page(s). I'll be working along, pulling un-needed buttons off some other page, say one of the DVD control pages, and then I'll go and look at the Home Page and notice that one or more buttons (or objects such as a background graphic) have disappeared. At first I thought they were really gone, but in fact, the still seem to be there. If you click on their location you will get the highlight marquis and if you ask for its "Properties" you will find the button/object is still there. However, if you click on the Appearance tab and view the Pressed versus Released states you will find the Pressed state fine and the Released state blank.

Since I don't really have all of these graphics as "importable" objects on disk, I can't just re-import them. Daniel does include most of them in his Gallery area, but I can't bring them in from there. Can I? Anyway, any clues as to what I'm doing wrong would be helpful.

Second problem. Daniel seems to always have to versions of each screen. The base screen (for instance DVD Player screen) and a second identical (or nearly so) called DVD Player A. Same with the Home Page and almost every other screen/page he creates. I've tried just deleting the "A" screen thinking they were there for some kind of "Missing IR Mode" but when I do, the main screen/page looks like every other line is missing. The page looks correctly in the editor but in the Emulator or when downloaded to the Pronto, the screens turn to trash with every other line missing.

Lastly, some of the objects in the tree view are grey in color and some are red. What is the difference? How do they get set that way?

Oops, now lastly. Is there any really good printed instructions out there for programming these critters. The manual that came with it will teach you absolutely zip about programming the device and the help file is about as useless.

Thanks in advance...

Go to prontowizard.com and buy the "Ultimate Pronto Guide." It will address all of your issues.

Problem #1. Make sure you download the latest software and firmware for the remote. It's available in the Files section of this site. If you are running with the versions as they were out of the box, you have software and firmware that most likely has bugs that were fixed in a later version.

Problem #2, For these buttons where every other line is missing, this means that you've deleted a button to which these buttons were linked. Daniel's A pages are used for the IR versus NO-IR setup from his home page. A most likely stands for 'Action' such that when he is using the 'IR' selection, he aliases to buttons in the 'A' pages.

Actually only one of the "A" pages is for that... the device list one. Any in-device "A" pages merely change the device quick-link icons at the top of the screen (use the little "+" button near the Devices button on the left side of the screen).

I'm not doing that in my TSU7000 design; too much work for too little effective result.

Edit: oh, and all command buttons link to IR codes stored under the [Codes] device.

Having edited Daniel's config for my RC9500 I also simplified things not using the A & B pages anywhere in the modified version.

However I know this sounds a dumb question, but I never quite figured out the operational benefit of having the "IR" and "No IR" option on the home page and device list. What am I missing out on.

Thanks

Hmmm, good feedback. Thanks but I'm still seeing the same problems. The ghosting I now can understand, which is easily rectifiable. Before I started I downloaded the latest BIOS (or whatever its called in Pronto-land). I also went and got the latest ProntoEdit NG software since what came in the box was hopelessly out of date.

I still am having random buttons/object on the System and Home page disappear. As I mentioned, they still seem to be there, they just seem to have lost their "Released" state graphic. The "Pressed" state is still there though. But I can't re-import since the graphics are not saved separately on disk but only in the Gallery or on screen pages. Any hints?

Another quick question I have is regarding the tree view; why are some items grey and some red?

Lastly, can items in the tree that I am not using at all (Devices, Power, Lighting), can they be deleted without issue (other than links to objects on other pages that I will have to resolve)?

Everything else, the Normal and "A" screen issues, the available documentation issue, etc. have been solved. Thanks to all who contributed. Mucho gracias...
