Why does TSU6000 include a female cable??? I have yet to see a laptop with a male serial port, my question is will a male-male adapter work?

If you need to use an adapter like that it is called a gender changer. I personally have only seen male DB9 connectors on laptops in the recent past, if, any at all are present. What laptop has a female DB9 connector? Just curious.

There are no stupid questions...only stpid people. Just kidding, I couldn't resist though. Are you sure the "Female Serial Port" you are looking at on your laptop isn't the external monitor port? All laptops and PC's that I have seen have male DB9's for serial connections.

Every laptop and Desktop I've ever owned (And thats a LOT) have had Male Serial Ports.

I would suspect your laptop does not have a serial port on it, and you are indeed, Like Mcnasty suggested, looking at the Monitor output.

Hey, You guys were right it was a monitor out. I've only made programs for prontos at the office, I send the the installers out with my program to upload. However, this was for updating a TSU6000 and the installer just bought a new laptop.

ANYWAY, will a USP to serial adapter work?

Sorry I don't remember the exact detail, but ONE and one only will work. Wait to buy one until someone posts the exact model, or search the site for it.

Instead of having to remember which cable this is, I am having to fend off smartass remarks from people about how I should change my laptop because it only has an 800 x 600 display...although its serial port works nicely.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Someone got a laugh out of Larry by stating in another thread that

Belkin is the Terk of computer cables.

Speaking of Belkin...

I bought a Belkin USB to Serial adapter. It installed on Com Port 5, but I read that Pronto reads to work on Port 1-4, so I switched it. It still wouldn't respond, even after a set the baud rate correctly. Finally, I updated the firmware and that worked fine, but it still won't load or send and files! Any input?

By the way, I have everything in front of me, so I'm not relaying this to my installer remotely.

Did you switch the COM port to COM1? ProntoEdit CLAIMS to work with Ports 1-4, but I've yet to see it succesfully get past COM2. and even thats a stetch.

Even if you get the Belkin to COM-1, dont hold your breath.... The belkin does NOT play nice with Prontos and XP. this has Been reported dozens of times, Including this thread already..

Get the Keyspan.

It must be on the FIRST free Com port. So, unless 1, 2 and 3 are either non-existant or busy, there's no way to use Com 4.

Try tapping the screen just prior to upload. Many times the remote needs to be awake.
