I will try it this evening, though the RC screen was on when I was trying to upload. Maybe it was "day dreaming". If this does not work - are there any other suggestions?

I tried the resent suggestion and it did not work. I am able to download from my laptop to the remote, but not upload. It is finding the device, but I get the error message that errors have occured. I need to download for "file save" reasons and also to use some of the LEARNED codes in macros. Any advice?

Here is another update.....

Though I am still able to download but unable to upload, I have found that I can do both up and downloads of BW/smaller files. Could the size of the file have any affect? I am confused.

You haven't said what type of Pronto you have.

There is a known problem with 6000s not being able to upload large files.

So if you want to learn some codes, set up a tiny CCF with buttons for each code you wnat to learn, download it, learn the codes, upload it, then merge it into your main CCF.

I do have the 6000s and will try this later tonight. Overall, I am not impressed with the inherent problems with the entire process. The download process should have been with USB and the ProEdit 4.05 should interface easier with graphics and wouldn't be nice if there was more than one undo level? Now, to get a large file to upload, one has to trick the system. For the cost of this product, it should have been better (maybe we are using a beta??)Well, thanks for letting me vent a bit.

But wait - I have yet to get the X10 functions into the RC and working - this will be another task I am sure I will enjoy.

Not only are we not in Beta, but the product is discontinued so dont expect any furthur enhancements to ProntoEdit... The 6000 is very old by electronics standards and USB just wansnt common when it was developed and introduced. (ANd trust me USB on the new remotes isnt any faster for some reason)

I can tell you that most people are very happy with the performance of the 6000. But when you stretch its limitations, theres quirks to deal with. As far as cost goes, tyr pricing out an AMX or Crestron system to do what your doing with the Pronto..... 3500-5000 minimum.

I've never had a problem with large files on my Marantz 9200 and I'm using about 65% of available memory. I know Peter is correct about this problem being seen on a 6000, but didn't think it was widespread. Two possible suggestions:

1) You might try Tonto, at least for downloading to the remote and possibly for programming. Tonto's communications are better than PE. It might or might not help. It's available here: [Link: giantlaser.com].

2) Assuming I'm correct and the "large file" problem only affects some of the 6000's (I don't know for sure) you might get it exchanged under warrantee or replaced from the vendor. Maybe Peter knows more about whether this problem affects ALL 6000's.

Jim, I actually suspect the computer rather than the 6000.

I am still not home to try the smaller file upload trick. It is not the computer, as I tried my desktop and my laptop to do the transfer - both with the same lack of success.

Hey, thanks for the responses. I really do appreciate it.
