Does the NEO currently have any support for discrete codes? If not is it known whether it will in future updates?

Most remotes you have to Learn the discrete codes with a cheap remote and the Neo is no different, I don't think that an update would change this, as the other Pronto's don't support it either..

Best bet is to by a Cinema 7 or one of the Radio Shack remotes to learn the discrete codes.

The updated software for the NEo now supports uploads, but the uploaded IR code is lost as soon as you try to "Cut & paste" so can't really think the .ncf files from others will help either..

In this case I'm trying to add a code for something not on any of the remotes I currently have, but one I've seen in the list of discrete codes on this site... which is why I'm hoping there's some way to insert the code directly without having to teach it to the remote. If the instructions are correct you can do this with various versions of ProntoEdit.

I did try this and it seems I was wrong, you can load up to different .ncf files and "cut & paste" bitmaps with the learned IR code staying with the bitmap, and the same is true for whole pages that have learned codes..

So this means that if you can find another user that has the "discrete codes" learned to a .ncf file, you can use them.. What is the device you are looking for? Maybe if you post a new message asking for that devices
you might get lucky, or if you know someone with a Pronto..I don't think that you can use leaned IR codes from the other Pronto's .ccf files, though I don't have a Pronto to try this with..

The device is a newer Sony Wega TV. The factory remote has no way to switch directly to one of the several Video input sources, I have to cycle through them all. I don't know if this code would actually work but it'd be nice if I could try it: [Link: remotecentral.com]

I do know someone with an older Pronto, though I am a bit skeptical about using the Pronto's ccf files.

OK, here's the scoop. I've been playing with discrete codes trying to get them to work on the Neo. I've got something really cool I want to share. You can unzip .NCF files with any ZIP archiver. I recommend using XP's Compressed Folders because it's the easiest to work with. When you unzip the .NCF, you'll see a ConfigEdit.xml and a 'Bitmaps' directory. The only file you need to worry about is the ConfigEdit.xml. You can use any text editor to edit this file. The trick is identifying the learned IR code to manipulate. The way I do it is as follows. I go into NeoEdit, place a new Beep action, and set it to a frequency like '3500'. Be sure the Beep is after the current learned IR code. That way I can search for that string within the editor. The learned IR code preceeding the beep is the one you want to edit. You may enter the discrete code there. '00' becomes '0'. I have been doing some testing and it seems hopeful. Please let me know what you think. I'll post a follow-up message soon.

Keepiru, I also have a Sony 35" that had no button to switch into the different Picture modes, but I found a remote that had the button, and it works with my set, as I'm sure it will work with yours.

I think if you ask around you'll find this code, if not, when I get my 2nd Neo for the basement and I learn the Sony tv's codes, I can send you the .ncf file.

wajon, that info is very interresting, could you email me that .xml file? Email is allamand@cheqnet.net

Thanks

Thanks for all the help allamand. I'll start checking around for it.

I'm really fascinated by wajon's findings though.. I think I may have to tinker around in there and see how badly I can screw up my new Neo. :)

Wajon, I'm able to extract and edit the .xml file but winzip and winrar don't recognize the archive format and won't allow me to add to or modify the ncf. How are you using the modified ConfigEdit?

the discovery that the ncf file is zipped also allows you send ncf files to others that contain the BMPs you wish to share, as when you unzip, the BMP folder contains all the buttons. this may also allow you to make another change i've wanted. perhaps if you modify the BMPs that are the ones used on the 'device overview' page, you could finally customize the first page you see.

I'm not quite clear on how the Learned codes are formatted. It looks like hex, but I can't seem to get it to correlate with any known discrete codes when I switch them to binary. I am I missing something?

Has anyone tried to run a Dish Network / Echostar receiver with the TSU500??? We are at a wall on this one. Our satellite receiver remote is UHF, but the receiver will respond to IR remotes so the Pronto should work. The UHF makes "learning" the codes out of the question from the current remote. The list of the codes in the user guide indicates that it should be compatible, but so far even the simplest command (on / off) isn't working. If you have overcome this obstacle please help a fellow user before this remote gets returned last the last 2 brands I tried.

There are no known discrete codes for dish network recievers. Discrete codes are seperate commands that will only turn your device on or off. You can do a search on either of these subjects and find some resources.

I've successfully replaced one of the bitmaps on the Device Overview with one of my own! Now instead of an ugly button that says "DVD" I now have the DVD logo as my Device Overview button.

To download it, the trick is to load it into NeoEdit and immediately download it without NeoEdit saving it. If NeoEdit saves it, it recreates the Device Overview page.

This is really cool. Maybe I could come up with some software to automate this process. Has anyone else had any luck?

tbuiler,
can you give step by step on how you did this?
Did you have to change a line in the .xml file, or just put in the bitmap?
