I just saw on CNN that the theatrical release of Star Wars III is scheduled for May 2005. If Episodes IV-VI will not be put on DVD until after that... well, don't hold your breath.

As a legitimate owner of all three SE episodes _and_ all three original episodes on VHS, I feel "eligible" to buy the bootleg DVDs without guilt. After all, Mr. Lucas has already gotten my money for both of his versions of the product! I would have bought DVDs from him if they were available, and I will doubtless buy the legitimate DVDs from him if/when they ever come out. In the meantime, I don't want to wait over two years more.

I just ordered the set from the link Johnla posted above. Oh, by the way: The same site also offers all three Indiana Jones movies, I purchased them as well. I'll update this thread with a quality report after I see them.

Indiana Jones is finally on the table. Apparently the major thing holding it up is a dispute between the studio (Paramount, I believe) and Lucas/Spielberg. The directors want individual releases, Paramount wants to do a box set only.

Stupid, but we hope to see Raiders late this year if they can get their talking done.

Hell "guilt" is not even a concern with me. I just want them to look good. As long as they are made right, and look and sound good. Is what matters. I don't worry about how much money Lucas will or will not lose. Because he sure don't worry about my finaces.
My only point of the entire thing here, was to look beyond Ebay for "hard to find" items. And to get them at a better price than what they go for on Ebay.

And people wonder why there is so much concern about digital copy protection.

Well if Lucas would release them in the US, that would not be a problem now, would it?

Hey! I just had a thought! What if Lucas himself was secretly releasing all of these bootleg copies?

Naahh!

OK here is a report on them, as I orderd the set also.
They came from Malaysia, kinda makes the $6 shipping a deal compared to what we pay for delivery from within the US on 3 DVDs.

All 3 DVDs have DTS 5.1 surround sound, Dolby Digital 5.1, and Dolby Digital 2.0 sound. They are all letter boxed 2.35:1, so you will have black bars top and bottom, even on a widescreen TV. All sound formats are in English. Subtitles are in English, Chinese, Malay, and Thai. They are Dual Layer DVDs, and they are NOT DVD recordables of any sort. They are true pressed DVDs.
Picture quality is very good. But I don't think it's true DVD quality. As I think they are made from the Laser Discs. Still it is better than a pristine VHS tape of the same movies, as I seen more detail in them than I do in a VHS tape. The sound is so much better than a VHS, it's worth it for the sound alone.
Were they worth the money, YES they were.

And if this bothers some of the "do gooders" that are shocked by their sales, and my purchase of them. It's just too damn bad. It was a legit purchase, I like them, Lucas left me no other choice. As he don't want to sell them in the US it seems. As I stated before, I own FIVE different versions of the VHS tapes of these same movies. So I think both Mr Lucas and 20th Century Fox, have made their money from me, 5 times over. They could have made it a 6th time, but they blew it. But you know what, when the DO offer it for sale, in the US. I will buy that version also.

BTW
Do NOT know if it's true or not, but on the back cover were all the copywrite and other mumbo jumbo is. it states "Made in U.S.A", but I doubt it!

Maybe "Made in USA" means that the English language (at least, the Americanized version" was made here. Be grateful. That means you can read the lable.

No, I think it's more than that. Also on the inner "hub" of all 3 DVDs where the information code is, on all DVDs. Well whatever infomation it had. Has been ground OFF. On all 3 DVDs. That would have told where they came from. They have a UPC code, that is not readable by DVD profiler, the DVDs do not provide the information to DVD profiler, as it was ground off. But DVD profiler does pick up the correct title of the movie, such as "A New Hope".

Hi Guys,
First time checking out this forum. I bought the 'Five Star Collection' Star Wars DVD trilogy off Ebay for $40 this past summer shortly after discovering them. I may be repeating a lot of what Johnla said but I thought I would give you the benefit of another review.

They are definitely taken from laserdiscs, in fact at the start of each DVD there is a screen with the THX logo and under it is written "THX Laserdisc". That being said they are great, the sound alone makes them worth buying. Beautiful matching packaging and nice factory printed full-color discs.

Picture quality is great, not up there with the new Star Wars releases, but hey these are film movies from the 70's-80's. They are widescreen so they do have the black bars as mentioned. If you have a widescreen TV just use the zoom feature and the bars will be all but gone.

As for the sound I don't have a THX certified amp so I can't comment on the THX working.
I do however have a DTS amp and the DTS logo lights up when the DVD's are playing and it sounds AMAZING. One note on the sound, make sure you go into the 'languages' heading on the main menu and pick your sound system type. That way you will get DTS quality or whatever type you have.

The movies are the 20th anniversary ones with the new footage added. Each DVD has nice interactive menus with scene selections. The trailer on each DVD is the one that was in the theater for the re-release.

Hope this helps some of you fellow Star Wars fans out.
By the way I have bought the SW trilogy on VHS three times already so I don't feel bad about owning this.
When Lucas finally officially releases them I will be the first in line.

Feel free to ask questions,

Brad
