Try reading this whole thread. Lucas swears he will never again release the OT, only the modified SE version of it. And it will not be on DVD until after Ep 3 is.

Somebody? A friend of mine heard That the Original
Star Wars Trilogy will be released by George Lucas
on Sept or Oct.

Have you heard something?

Well let me know when that happens. I don't think so, in the mean time, "may the bootleg be with you"

Tell George to make the DVD with the two versions: The Original and the SE. :-)

This link also has a link to Lucasfilms public relations department relating DVD releases and how consumers feel about it.

Ya know, that is really stupid of them. I'm not saying they should be the media whores that they are and do it just for the money, but there are SO many people who would be willing to purchase the original trilogy on DVD. Fans that would truly appreciate the release for nothing more than just having the movie in a format that doesn't deteriorate like VHS, that you can jump to chapters, and that is of a good quality. I, for one, am a Star Wars addict. I would have no problem parting with my hard-earned cash for this. They could make a killing by tossing together a nice compilation of the Original trilogy along with the Special Edition, in DTS 5.1, and add some extras- cutting room snippets, outtakes, making-of (I know they exist, I have one)...

THEN, when this killer HD-DVD format comes out (720i?), I'll be happy to buy it again. I'm crazy like that. :-)

This article was dated before the Episode I DVD and now we have Episode II.

We need some newer info on this... I haven't seen anything about they releasing the trilogy before 2005.

I saw an interview with Lucas and he claimed that because of the poorly kept condition of the original three films that he could not get the to transfer to DVD and maintain THX standards. I don't know how true this is, but he said back when origianl movies were made no one thought to preserve the film for later reproduction and much of the film is too aged to transfer properly. I hope this is not the case and would like to see them released even if the picture is a shade crappy just because I hate to blow the dust out of the old VHS everytime i want to watch na older movie. DVD are far more convenient. I can see however the general public blasting him for just trying to make a profit if he released a DVD with less than spectacular quality.
One thing I have learned in this industry. It is easier to pull a wire than it is to push one.

FYI - I tried going to both the vendors listed in this thread ([Link: clik.to] and [Link: newdvd.cc]) and both are gone. I had newdvd in my favorites, so I know it was there a few months ago. Wonder if there are piracy police? :) ha ha

Yeah, they're in the same department as mattress-tag cops.

I believe that "degraded" comment was in relation to the last theatrical "Special Edition" release (something to the effect that "if we hadn't done something now the film stock would have become unworkable").

It looked just fine thank-you-very-much in theaters a few years ago, so I'm sure it will look fine on DVD. I was under the impression that a) he was too busy to do all the extras he wants and b) he wasn't done fiddling with the first movie yet.

Here is another source I found by doing a search on google. They're selling the set for $35.00. Has anyone tried these guys yet? I'm thinking of ordering.

Well the place I listed, shows them on their web page. And as being available. And that's where I got mine.
The place you listed does not show them on their web page, or as even being available when I just looked minutes ago.
