I suspect Jim, got his player as a present?? or
use it as a CD player?? What's your story? Do
you rent? Wow!

Acutually Jim bought his DVD player from Crutchfield - super service - reasonable shipping - and no California sales tax.

I have used it as a CD player a couple of times because it is slightly easier than using my mega players if I am only going to listen to a friend's CD once.

For regular CD listening I have one Sony 200 disc changer and one 400 disc changer contolled by a Slink-e.

Yes, I rent from NetFlix and am on their 8 out at a time plan so have watched a lot of DVD's. I just prefer to rent movies and buy music - as we used to say in the 60's 'different strokes for different folks'.

Cheers, Jim.
Cheers, Jim.

Good Point and when the next media change comes, you won't be stuck with all those silver discs.

I did manage to sell all my 8=tracks for 50 cents a piece years ago. :D Sold most of my LPs/EPs/45's on E-Bay.. Thinning out my CD collection...

I have 500 DVD's and 400 Laserdiscs I have all my DVD's in DVDProfiler and am curently trying to wrangle the Laserdiscs in too...I have been collecting for 9 years. I store the Lasers in custom made cabinets and the DVD's in two Kenwood DV-5050M's. Like Andrea I too am a DVDaholic.

I have 400 cds that i am burning to my pc that i connected to my stereo. Once I am done, I will probably get rid of those cds. I really don't buy cds anymore. i rather spend the money on dvds. once i get my media room setup maybe i will give dvd-audio a try. once i started buying cds i gave away my 100 plus tape cassette collection. when dvds came out i gave away my 100 plus vhs video collection even though i didn't buy a dvd player till years later.

recently i bought a year subscription to internet radio through music match for $30 bucks for a year. I always listened to my cd collection radomly within a genre. Internet radio is basically the same thing.

A pathetic 45 DVD's after buying 2 just yesterday. Countless CD's (2000+), 1,761 MP3's, a couple of VHS tapes, many recorded SVHS tapes, and I'm looking for a good DVD-Audio disc. I owned 2 cassettes in my lifetime, but have lost them. They were Gin Blossoms, and Pearl Jam. I only but DVD's that I consider "must-haves", otherwise I just rent. And with the baseball strike, and Vikings pathetic season, both of which I'm just thrilled about, I might have time to watch a few more DVD's.

Im in Andrea's boat as well, I live for Tuesday's, that is the best time to buy!! My collection is up to 249 DVD's and 595 CD's. Running out of space in my two racks, use one Pioneer DVD changer, that is just about full, there are 25 Karaoke discs in there as well. Im waiting for Sony's new DVD progressive changer to come out, I believe it was just released. The two Sony CD changers are full with 5 slots left, but as others I don't buy CD's anymore, I have a computer that holds all my mp3's, and has a Harmon Kardon computer to receiver device that plays all MP3's. I also use Wintrax that connects to the same computer and runs all 595 discs, via a jukebox method. All this is connected to the 80" big screen from the computer.

I think I've got approx 30 now, been collecting about a year. It's decision time, actually, because my storage shelf in the system stand holds, like, 20ish, so I need to find a rack of some sort.

Andrea,
two shelves full of unwatched movies?! Jeez, I've generally got 2-5 unwatched at any point. You're right, get to those meetings!

I think I'm running at about 92 at the moment.

It's quite strange, I never really felt the urge to buy VHS cassettes but DVDs, I just have to own!

I only have about 2 dozen, and thats about my limit. Just can't see spending all that money to stockpile 480P software. I know that when HD DVD arrives I won't want to watch that low res stuff anymore. Till then, I rent.

I have about 250, but what are you guys using to store them?

I store my 500 or so CDs in a Roladisc, which I love, but, as far as I know nobody has invented anything equivalent.

And those storage binders are unsatisfactory for a number of reasons (won't hold card Warner Bros DVD title pages, hard to alphabetize, etc.)

What do those of you who don't use changers use?

Not nearly enough. Around 30. Not much to show for 1.5 years of having DVD players. :-(

We (our family) have a little over 200 DVDs.

As for storage, I've built my own wall mounted shelves. I have 8 shelves in an area 48 in. wide and 64 in. high. That gives me room for approximately 730 DVDs depending on how you stack them. I use a combination of verical & horizontal storage.

With that capacity, these shelves will serve us a long time since we are buying about 100 DVDs/yr.
