This may be a very long shot but does anyone have discrete on/off codes for the Matsui VX1105 VCR?

Thanks in advance

Marc,

It may be a long shot but if you want to work at it I may be able to help you figure it out. Looking at various sources there are at least 10 different IR protocol and device combinations for the Matsui VCR. Some of those are probably VCR1,VCR2,VCR3 codes so you can use multiple VCR's in the same environment and control only the one you want.

If you can narrow down what device number/protocol to which your VCR responds, then the brute force method is to try all possible command codes (probably 256) for a given device.

If you have an One-For-All (OFA) remote then the setup code will tell us the first half(Protocol/Device). Then there is a process for trying all buttons in a setup code.

If you have a Pronto, I can decode a learned command and then you can use one of the Pronto hex generators to generate all 256 commands.

There are occasionally work-arounds. From Off try Play, Eject and a few of the control buttons and see if that will turn the unit on? Then you can develop a macro with the power toggle.

HTH,

Jon

Nice one Jon.

First off. There is no workaround method of turning the thing on. I've tried all the buttons on the original remote with no luck.

I do have a Pronto and the toggle code for On/Off is:>>>>>

0000 006d 0000 0022 0156 00ab 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 003f 0016 0040 0015 0040 0016 0015 0015 0040 0016 003f 0016 0040 0015 0040 0016 0015 0015 0040 0016 003f 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0040 0016 0015 0015 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0015 0015 0016 0040 0015 0040 0016 0015 0015 0040 0016 003f 0016 0040 0015 061c

If you could decode this that would be great. I'm not that 'up' on code generating or which program to use to generate the codes you mentioned so instructions on this would be fantastic.

My email is marcsonfire@aol.com.

Thanks in advance

Marc

Marc,

Your VCR responds to NEC2:128.123 (repeating NEC protocol device 128 sub-device 123). Power toggle is command or function 19.

Here are some other commands that I am fairly certain that your device will respond to. The gaps in the numbers will likely have other commands with similar functions (16, 17, 20 would be my first guesses for a discrete power command):

CMD Function
000 num 0
001 num 1
002 num 2
003 num 3
004 num 4
005 num 5
006 num 6
007 num 7
008 num 8
009 num 9
010 channel up
011 channel down

013 timer
015 channel >100

018 tv/vcr
019 power

021 record
022 play
023 stop
024 fast fwd
025 rewind
026 pause

030 tape speed
041 minute advance
042 hour advance
065 up arrow
066 down arrow
067 Arrow RIGHT(Alt)
068 Arrow LEFT(Alt)
069 enter
074 channel
075 counter memory
076 counter
078 eject
080 menu
086 program guide
103 Arrow RIGHT
104 Arrow LEFT
239 input toggle

The best Hex Generator for this is probably John Fine's MakeHex that is in files under utilities.

Once you download it open the NEC2.irp file below:
***************************************************
Device=5.5
Function=0..255

Protocol=NEC2 'Like NEC, but repeats entire pattern
Frequency=38000
Time Base=564
One=1,-3
Zero=1,-1
Prefix=8,-8
Suffix=1,-84
*************************************************

Change it to Device=128.123

and Change F= to the range of commands or functions that you want it to generate. It is probably set as below to the default that will give all 256.

F=0..255

(F=20..20 will just give command 20)

In windows explorer Drag the edited NEC2.irp and drop it on MakeHex.exe and you get a text file NEC2.txt with your commands.

HTH & GL,

Jon

Nice try Jon. Greeat program but I tried all 256 codes and none of them worked. Although one of them did completely reset my VCR!!! It turned the thing off, reset the clock and calender etc! Not a big deal, means I just need to set the clock again but I don't think I can really use that code as a discrete off.

Thanks for your help anyway. Any other suggestions or is my VCR a TOAD???

Cheers Jon

Marc

Marc,

I think the VCR is a TOAD. The only other work arounds are probably in the Home Automation department.

If you have an x10 appliance module you could try turning it off momentarily and back on. As you probably know the Pronto can send IR commands to a ~$30 IR receiver that in turn can signals over the power line to control lighting etc.

This could only work if brief power interruption doesn't make it lose the clock settings but will turn it off then that is a discrete off. On would be the prior sequence plus power toggle. This is little "ugly" -- a loud clunk when the relay is activated in the Appliance module.

If you have a PC based HA system then there are a variety of Parallel and Serial port IR transmitters and sensors that you could determine whether the unit is on. There is a little circuit that can detect whether the composite video is on. I'll be glad to send more information. But at the current price of VCR's it probably cheaper to sell your VCR on eBay and buy one with discrete commands.

But, now that you have the secret weapon of MakeHex you will be finding all those hidden functions in your other devices!

Jon
