I am looking at buying a Denon 3802.

Can anyone tell me if it has all the discretes they need. I have found on/off and letters A-E for the tuner.

Is someone using source discretes and/or sound setting discretes?

Can you turn on/off multi-zone via discretes and also select multi-zone source? What about Multi-zone Volume?

Your help on this matter would be appreciated.

Dave

To answer all your questions...YES.

It does have power discretes. It does have source discretes, and a few surround discretes (5 ch stereo, DD, stereo, direct) Also, it 'links" up the surround mode to each source...in other words if you select hall on your cd, then go to tuner and select 5 ch stereo, then go back to cd...it willl go back to hall. That's usefull if there are sources that you don't change the surround on (like DVD to DD). Oh...the 3802 automatically switches to DTS, when provided.

ON/off for the multi-room is available. Multi-room volume is available...both on the factory remote. I haven't played with it too much, but I don't think there are discrete source selection for multi-room, but I'll look into it....

Jose,

wonderful, wonderful, thanks for the answer. I think that has decided it. I need a new amp and it is the Denon 3802. Will probably use my old Denon amp to power the multi room stuff as it has an A/B switch that will allow me to cover both the bathroom and kitchen.

Will also mail Denon to say this was one of the key buying decisions (as well as sound quality) to ensure they are aware people want discrete codes for everything.

Thanks Again

Dave

When you get (to) the 3802, teh og remote comes with these discretes. I do want to note that I highly recommend getting a 3802 at an authorized dealer. Yeah, I know you can get one for dirt cheap on-line, but you better check out Denon's website about buying on-line. They are extremely strict when it comes to this subject.

a note about buying online and warranties...I got scared when I read Denon's warranty stuff that said they would not support products purchased from non-authorized dealers, so here is what I did...

I bought the Receiver from Crutchfields for the "Collusion special" $999. Got it the next day and everything was beautiful. Then I searched the web to see if I could get it cheaper on-line. I found "Joe's web store"[insert your favorite cheap online vendor here] was selling the same exact item for $700.

I printed out the add and called up my credit card company (AMEX Optima Platinum $0.00 yearly) and got to their "price protection" group. I told them my story and they asked me to send them copies of the crutchfield and the online add to compare. They noted the $299 difference and send me a check within the week for $250 (the max).

I'm very, very, very happy that I chose American Express.

You are my new hero :) I have 3 Amex cards and had no idea they had this program. I just called them and confirmed everything you said to be true. Thanks for the great tip. :)

A word about Multi On/Off discretes. No problem with discrete On for Multi or Amp, but Off may be a problem. I have not been able to to turn off Multi without also turning off Amp. It is suggested in an earlier reply that a discrete Multi Off is possible but I have not found it. As a temp solution I have programmed Multi Off to change to an unused source such as Phono). Anyone have a discrete Off soultion?
