To be more specific on the database, I have the following pieces of gear that are not specifically addressed.

I have as part of my system a B&K Reference 50, Mitsubishi Projector XD300U, and Single disc CD player Micromega Drive 1 and DAC 1 external DAC.

First, although the B&K Reference 50 Series 2 is included, the original Ref 50 is not, and many of the codes for similar functions are different.

There are Mitsubishi projector codes which seem to work, codeset 0895, but I am still playing with that one. This is a fairly common projector and I would have expected to see its codes listed.

My particular Micromega setup is a bit esoteric and I didn't expect it to work, but I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised to at least find that there were some codes for it.

I did not seem to sound so negative about the Pronto, as it really is an amazing piece of technology, only that it could be more user freindly. When you are paying close to $1000 for a remote control, do you really want to pay someone else half that again to set it up for you, or would you expect it to work easily out of the box. I know it is designed for installers, but that doesn't mean one should be required to have a professional install it.

Pronto Team,

I have programmed many many prontos including the 9600 and ypur database is not very good. Universal's database is downright amazing compares to yours. The number of discreet codes they have and the models listed is just astounding. That being said your products are great and work well and the 9600 is quite cool.

Considering that this product is geared towards more High end AV users, I'm suprised that there are not more high end components in the database such as Denon AVR 5805 receiver and DVD-3910 or 5910 DVD players.

While at CEDIA, the Pronto team indicated they are going through a lengthy project to make the database more friendly and more inclusive. Kundos to the Pronto Team to tackle this BIG project and best of luck!

Now I've found the right thread...

There seems to be a bug in 'My Database' - when I open, close, then reopen the properties of an item, the fields become corrupted with seemingly random characters and the delay time gets corrupted with part of the version no.!?

:-(

Pronto Team,
You need to redo the Denon AVR-5805 database. Out of the 8 devices I have this was one of only three that was actually in the database. It has however caused considerable work and frustration primarily because half the code labels do not match the code that they actually send (mainly in zone controls (i.e. zone 1 on sends zone 3 on, etc.). Many codes are missing (no zone 1 or zone 4 codes). I can't believe that this codeset was ever tested by you.

I agree that you need to label the codesets by brand, type, and model number as advertised (codeset 1234 as a label is useless).

For a "99% complete" database, I must have a bunch of components in the 1% (not oddball stuff). No codes for Sharp XV-Z20000 projector, Sony DVP-CX995V DVD changer (curiously used in one of your installer guides), Toshiba HD-XA2 HD-DVD are in the database.

The Sony 995V changer uses the same codes as does the 777ES. However, you likely know that these DVD changers have 3 codesets. These secondary codesets are listed under some other name that what you might expect.

Simon, this is likely not the best place to post bugs. You should email to prontoteam at philips dot com with exact reproduction steps. You may also want to attach your config and your database with the email in case they need it to reproduce.

My first ever programmable remote of this caliber was the TSU9600, it took me approx. 2 weeks to learn to use the product (software and hardware) and build a working remote that could obsolete my 7 individual equipment remotes. I knew that I was purchasing an item that was advertised as a “Built for Installers” device and was concerned if I would be up to the challenge. I am very impressed with both the device and the program overall and I believe it was time well spent. Now moving on to learning javascript.

It appears to me that Philips has been in this business for quite sometime. From an end-user perspective quite honestly the IR database/organization appears very amateurish so much so that I ended up learning most if not all my required codes. A poster “Thoupis” in a different thread commented that for him (an installer) it worked quite well and I agree with his assessment. For an Installer that is using the same equipment over and over they quickly build and fix up their own database that they can reuse. This leads me to the assumption that the IR database is not a priority for Phillips since it works most of the time, or is not required at all by installers.

Often posters here comment that companies (Philips) don’t have the time or resources to collect all the potential equipment IR codes, well then possibly its time to separate the IR database from the main application and allow users to contribute codes for equipment in addition to what Philips wants to include. This process could be completed by a voting/approval process using sites like this one. I don’t believe these codes are proprietary, licensable or owned by Philips.

I bought my TSU9600 from an installer as I am sure many others have, I also assume Philips counts that sale as an Installer sale not an end-user sale. Phillips beware you may have a lot more end-user sales than you think.

I expected a lot more from a company that has been in this business for as long as Phillips has.

In order to make "My Database" useful to me, it would need to allow me to store an RS-232 codeset in it.

TWilly,

That feature has been discussed but I don't know if and when it will be available.

Can you please add the McIntosh C220 tube preamplier codes. I can't get the TSU9600 to work using the IR learning features.

Thanks & Happy Holidays

I have the same problem with the codes for the Audio Research Reference 3 preamp. The database does not include any codes for Audio Research. And the learned codes work once in a blue moon. I also have an MX-810 and learned codes for the Ref 3 work flawlessly.

Somehow i can't find the right entry in the Factory Database for my Sony STR-DE435.
Every time some codes seem to work, others don't. (Tuner preset skipping 2 instead of 1, no response at all, those kind of things)

So what i would like to do is create my own set of IR Codes based on codes coming from different models from the Database. I haven't found a way to do that yet, so i guess there isn't?

Robert.

BTW,
You can browse the database. It's SQLite. But don't know if that will get me any further, i'd rather see a more flexible database support from within PEP.

On the Contrary, There are many ways out there to make your own IR codes or to find codes for equipments you own. This site is one reference, There are many other sites devoted to IR codes and many have public information and programs. I know of several people who have done some work and released some utilities. I released a general utility a long time ago and documented the format used at the time by Philips to store IR codes. There are many others you just need to search the web. Try using JP1 or Robert Crowe or IR Codes as search drivers.
