Hi all, first post on this forum so go easy on me :)

TSU9400 with the latest (7.3.3) firmware and PeP (2.4.23). I am trying to control my Xtreamer (and having no end of difficulties with the codes but thats a different topic). I learned teh codes for the Xtreamer and they are fairly short (sometimes just 10 or 12 words) yet when I press the button on the Pronto, the icon in the top left corner (activity?) stays on for quite a long time, and goes through several animations. it looks like it is re-transmitting the code but its not. For example, pressing the Down button only moves the menu bar down 1 spot, as it should, but it seems to take a very long time to transmit it. The effect is that the Pronto feels *extremely* sluggish. I can hit down arrow 3-4 times fairly rapidly as it misses all but the first press until its done with its top-left-corner animation. Only when its stopped its animation can I press the button and have the menu bar move down one more spot.

when using the simulator, I don't see this issue. That little icon just flashes fairly briefly and its done.

I can provide my config file (its a work in progress and I've only been using PeP for a day so I am likely doing very dumb stuff) if it will help.

Thanks in advance for any help at all.

We don't need the configuration. The IR code data in question should give us enough information to go on at this point.

Please post the IR code data from your learned code as I suspect is is not a clean learn. For learning tips, you can have a look at the Classic Pronto FAQ (from the Classic Pronto Forum).

Also, make sure you don't have a delay action inside the ActionList as this will make the activity icon continue to move during the delay time.

P.S. The simulator does not transmit IR as was available with earlier Pronto Remotes. You can overcome some of the simulator issues by installing some additional software which you should be able to find using a search for:

TCP simulator Jon Welfinger

That's the code for the"Down" button, as learned.

I do not have any delay actions at present, and no extenders so the emulator works just fine. I dont need the emulator to send the IR codes, I just use it for visual verification and then walk to the room with the equipment and test it.

I have started reading up on the Pronto hex code format so I can produce better codes. Each time I learn a key from the remote its very different. Sometimes its about 3 times the length of the above, other times it's half. For the particular device in question (Xtreamer) I believe it's standard codes but thus far my Googling has not yielded the NEC1 specification so I'm still shooting in the dark a bit.

I have several other devices yet to configure so I have quite a bit to keep me busy, and will continue the hunt for good Xtreamer codes as the days go by.

Regards,
Kean

I've read it many times and it doesn't help me, as far as I can see. That PCF file doesn't seem to apply to PeP 2.3.24.0 (it may to earlier versions, I don't know). Also the list of codes is incomplete (no digits for example). I also have an Xtremer original not the Xtreamer pro, which I am pretty sure is what those codes are for, based on other postings about this topic here and on xtreamer.net.

However, even using one of those codes on one test button, I still get the same issue - the code seems to be sent twice (but isnt really - just that icon cycles twice and I cant press any other button while its doing it).

Here is a Database File with all of them.

EDIT
Corrected the IR Codes Names. See Post 8.

Note that your learned IR code is not clean. If you change the code as follows, it should be sent 1 time...

0000 006E 0022 0002 0155 00AA 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 003F 0016 003F 0016 003F 0016 003F 0016 003F 0016 003F 0016 003F 0016 003F 0016 003F 0016 0015 0016 003F 0016 003F 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 003F 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 003F 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 003F 0016 003F 0016 0015 0016 003F 0016 05F2 0155 0054 0016 C590

This last C590 is the source of your problem. When you learn on the 9400/9600 , wait until the screen on the remote says (not the editor software) it is time to learn. Then press the button on the OEM remote and wait until your 9400/9600 remote beeps and then release the button. If it is a clean learn, it will look something like the above but may begin with 0000 006D 0022 0002. This is the NEC/panasonic IR protocol. if you are so inclined to learn about what these numbers mean, you can download and read the document entitled "Pronto Hex IR Format" by Barry Gordon from the User documentation subsection of the Classic Pronto Files forum.

My suggestion as you are a new user is to use the codes Jason supplied in the database.

For some background on that thread you read but did not fully comprehend:

The PCF file referenced applies to the older NG remotes. You can open that file with ProntoProEditor NG (PPENG - see Pronto NG files section) or you can import that PCF using PEPV1 (available from Pro files section).

If you do the import, you can then save the imported PCF as an XCF. Please see the sticky thread in this forum about not uninstalling PEPV1. Once you have the file converted using PEPV1, save as XCF file and load into PEPV2. From there, you can add the IR codes to a component in My Database.

If you use PPENG, you can edit the buttons in that editor and view the IR code data which you can then copy/paste between PPENG and PEPV2 to build your My Database component.

Thank you very much that fixed the problem ... extremely useful indeed. Just one thing however, the skip backwards/forwards are inverted. For example if you put skip backwards on a button that looks like << it will actually go forwards, and if you put skip forwards on a button that looks like >> it actually goes backwards. They are also slightly mis-labled. Its really Skip forwards/Pg Down and Skip Backwards / Page Up. Just changing the names to be correct makes everything good. Do you want to correct it in your DB or should I, and repost it here?

@lyndel:
I have actually read the thread on decoding the pronto hex format and the NEC1 protocol. I'm a bits-n-bytes kinda guy. However, that knowledge is mostly useless to me as I have other fish to fry, and Jason's very helpful database solved the problem so I don't have to sit and decode all those hex codes :). But thank you for the pointers on learning, to wait for the remote and not the software. I did notice that if I hold down the button while learning (until the pronto beeps) that I get extremely long hex codes. About 4 or 5 times the length of the ones in Jason's database.
But the actual problem posted here was solved and I thank you gentlemen very much for your time and assistance, it is greatly appreciated. I really do love forums where people are so helpful and polite.

Kean,

If you are an end-user, I recommend that you go the the Philips site (click ProntoScript in top-right-hand corner) and become Level1 and Level2 certified as the PDF literature that is provided will help you better understand the pronto, the editor, and the capabilities of the platform.

I'm all for helping folks that are willing to invest and that really want to learn. I believe in teaching a man to fish to feed him for life vs giving a man a fish to feed him a meal.

If you just want someone to "make it work" and don't want to learn, then using a phrase like "I have other fish to fry" may make folks a bit less willing to help.

That's not at all what I meant. What I meant was rather than learning the deep innards of pronto hex codes and the NEC1 protocol (especially when provided with a solution like Jason did) I want to spend time learning and discussing the tools and the device themselves. I am not lazy and I am not, have not, and will not ever ask someone to "just make it work" (so much so that I had actually started decoding the hex codes that I had learned to see what was going wrong). I have already downloaded the installers and prontoscript guides and I am going through them, just as you suggested. I have an especially keen interest in the prontoscript side of things.

Thanks for letting me know.

I have changed them and it can be downloaded here.

I also changed the link in Post 6 so both are the same.
