Hey Folks,

I went to install a TSU-9600 and a RFX-9400 at a client's home today, and I'm pretty darn sure I had all the settings correct (I took the 6 hour training at A^%D a couple of weeks ago). Go to power up the RFX and it just sits there with the busy light blinking on and off, and the 9600 can't connect. Tried unplugging the RFX power supply several times, still no luck. Is this an RMA issue or could it be something else? I'm using stand-alone mode, so there's not a lot to configure here.

BTW, the worst part of all this is the utter lack of any kind of tech support from A^%D or Philips. I tried calling Philips on several different phone numbers. When I finally get someone on the phone, they tell me they don't support the 9600, and that I must call my distributor. I then call my distributor and he tells me that I need to contact Philips. It's so frustrating.

Dawn

P.S. Everything works fine via IR. I'm actually considering using a Niles emitter system instead of the RFX-9400.

Try this.

If you look closely in the manual, there is a switch on the back labelled '1 2 3' that one might think is used to specify the Channel ID as 1,2,3 as was done with the older RFX6000/6500's.

This switch only applies as Channel ID/Number if the mode of the extender is set to 'Standalone' (controlled by another switch on the unit). If in Network Mode, this switch has implications as to whether the unit is ready for use, etc...

If you've done all this, then I'd suggest asking for a new unit. I seem to recall Dave D'Arche had a problem like this and had to set the switch to 1 or 2. I can't recall which it is.

Also, make sure you install the latest firmware on both the TSU9600 and the RFX9400. Updates in both places are required.

If the Busy LED is flashing red then green, it indicates that the RFX9400 is in Configuration mode. Was the 3-position slide switch set to position1 - ie the "use" setting?

dvwebster,

I guess great minds think alike. This whole dual-purpose switch can be confusing as in Network Mode, it means one thing and in Standalone mode, means another.

Lyndel,

Yes, I set the 1,2 3, switch to setting 1 (just for the heck of it, I also tried setting 2), and in PEP to channel setting 1. I had the other settings/switches configured for standalone mode.

I'll definitely update the firmware on both units.

Springs,

Can you please send me the trainer's email & phone #s? I seem to have misplaced his card.

Thanks to all,

Dawn

Dawn,

Hope you get it working. The first time I setup a 9400, I ran into this issue as well. Old habits die hard. That's why I went ahead and posted.

Lyndel,

Thanks so much for the suggestion to update the firmware on the RFX-9400. That completely solved the problem!! Unbelievable range too.
