I am looking for discreet codes for the different wide modes on Sony VPL Projectors. The Sony website has the RS-232 codes for them but with IR there is only Toggle.

Is it possible to Generate the codes needed from the wide mode toggle?

I am tring to get the codes for

Normal
Full
Zoom
Wide Zoom
Anamorphic Zoom

If this is possible I would love a bit of help from anyone who can offer it, If it is not possible I would also like to be told so that I can stop the wild goose chase.

Thanks in advance to those who take the time to help.

As a matter of practice Sont generally includes all of the discrete codes in their IR Receive circuitry. The remote has limited button real estate so many of the duscrete codes are provided as toggles, or steppers, or via menu navigation.

the following is the most complete site for Sony codes I know of:

A program like MakeHEX can take these values (the Device code (1, 3, 151, 164,..) and the key code and produce the proper Pronto Hex pattern. They can also be hand fabricated once you understand the Sony IR protocol and how Pronto Hex is constructed.

So Barry are you saying you could fabricate the codes I need? if so what would be your cost in doing so?

According to Sony's protocol documents those IR codes for the VPL projectors are not supported. I have a VW-60 and I wound up using the RS-232 codes through my RFX9600, Sorry about that.

I suspect what Tom has stated is true. The site I refrenced does not have the code numbers for the functions you hare looking for.

I can not generate the hex patterns without the code numbers. I normally do not charge for pattern generation as I have software that does it. I do it mostly for small custom installers who need dome specific Pronto hex pattern to add to a specific button.

I avoid components that do not have an RS232 interface whenever I can. Having said that I do use an Edge Scaler which only has IR input, but all of the codes, even allowing for specific numerical values such as setting the brightness to 50.

The RS232 route is genrally more robust, and works all the time. As most in this forum know I do not use the Pronto for IR or RS232, but rather use a PC under TCPIP command from a Pronto to talk to the comonents. I like the flexibility I get with the PC.

Barry, it is very true. I generated the 232 codes for Tom as they have a CRC as last byte that had to be calculated. Tom is using these 1-way to simply set the aspect ratio.

I, too, was surprised that there were no discrete IR codes for these but then again, the KDL 46" Sony TV I have does not have discrete IR codes for format.

Tom, contact me via email and I will send you something much better. It is a PC program that will either generate all the codes for the edge or transmit them to the Edge. It is my test routine for the Edge that I developed while doing Beta testing for the unit on behalf of ABT. I plan to release it to the general Edge public but have been busy integrating a Cary Ciema 11A into the system with the Edge. How do you like the Edge? I control the Edge over IR from my theater control system and I have found their wired IR to be very reliable.

Lyndel, I am not surprised about the CRC in the Sony RS232 protocol. I do not think Sony likes Crestron and does not make it easy for them. I have come across several RS232 protocols that include some sort of a checksum or CRC. I personally think a CRC is overkill and a Checksum would be good enough. One common practice is to have the byte string including the checksum sum to 0. I believe DVDO did this on several of their Scalers for RS232 control.
