I am pretty amazed at how the posts that followed my criticism were so unbelievably defensive. I wonder, do any of you own any MX-5000? All I said is that the MX-5000 deserves this upgrade. I then go on to say that RTI handles mass features better and I am told "go buy something else then" and then I even disclaim that my post was not meant for URC employees that post here and I get another rant about opinion disclaimers. You guys should learn how to handle cricism a little better. With what the MX-5000 lists for I have a right to complain. And I know what my options are also.

So there.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Yes, I own 2.

So does it make you feel better to criticize URC?

And you should learn to use spell check! Or was that crisis-ism?

|With what the MX-5000 lists for I have a right to complain.|

That's certainly debatable!

What Jimmy failed to recognize in his second rant was that said "URC employee" answered all his "cricism." You keep tilting at those windmills, my quixotic friend.

So an Authorized URC message (Dale's out) said the MX5000 would have browser capabilities, in no less than an week ago? Doubt it.

After a chat with the other guys on my team, they remembered where it was we saw that. It was actually said in the two-way control webinar with URC back about a week ago or so. There were 4 of us listening and watching that webinar, and we all kind of looked at each other when he (John I think) said it, since it sounded crazy to us. He can deny it, or URC could deny it, but less than 2 weeks ago, we were directly told there would be a browser for the 5000. I'm not saying they're not right for not going through with it or whatever. I personally don't care. I'd never sell a customer a remote with a browser function enabled, it's just asking for trouble. However, it seems reckless to promise apps that aren't followed through with. It's not crazy to think someone is going to take that "official" information and use it to sell a product.

Disclaimer: I love URC remotes and own several MX-5000's.

Well, I don't know who was presenting the webinar, but I can assure you that whoever it was made a simple mistake. We've known since August that the browser for 5000 wasn't going to work, and we told everyone that at CEDIA. But, since a mistake was clearly made, I'll make certain that the folks in the training department get the necessary "heads up."

Sorry for the misleading information. I'll do what communication I can across departments to avoid the same thing happening again.

Best regards,
Dale

Like I said, I don't really care one way or another. 99% of my customers can barely function on an actual laptop browser. No way I'm going to give them a browser function on their remote. I agree with the reasoning. I just specifically remembered it being said because it seemed so odd to us.

A lot of my customers use browsers. Especially this time of the year in the Northeast where you have Football, Basketball, Hockey and College Sports, winter weather advisories, holiday traffic, etc.

I think if URC adds a few RSS feed drivers and makes them available for the MX-5000 that would be a healthy compromise. I think there may be a differnce in web browsing vs. internet access. Browsing is not fun to do on anything except a PC/Laptop or internet tablet.

As long as module suggestions continue to be fielded and created/implemented there should be less reason for browsing.

I myself happen to think that browswer access is useful. Not going to cite every example, but here are some instances when I use my browswer on my RTI T4 remote in my theater room:

- Reading a movie review before I sit down and spend the next 2 hours in front of the screen.

- Queuing up Netlix movies before instantly watching on my Tivo - Isn't that annoying!

- Getting traffic updates for my houseguests depending on where they live.

- Referencing something I hear about while watching something for informational purposes.

There's Sports RSS feeds on the MX5000 for:
Yahoo Sports
ESPN Top Headlines
NFL Headlines
