I am looking for a remote that will control the following devices:

Daiken split system air conditioner (IR)
Typhoon ceiling fan (RF) these fans are made by Hunter Pacific

It will also be required to do the AV gear which I believe is a no brainer.

Ideally a LCD programmable remote that I can map some keys or LCD buttons with tags like AC OFF , AC ON etc. I would like a hand held one hand operation.

I live in Australia where the RF frequency is 433MHz for the RF which is what the ceiling fans operate at.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Cheers,

Fleetz

No universal remote will control your ceiling fan if it's RF....universal remotes can't learn RF.

I am trying to get the hex code from the ceiling fan manufacturer and load them in as a cut and paste. At the minute they are playing hard to get

Does the ceiling fan have IR sensor? I doubt it. If its RF, it usually is only RF.

Still won't work.

"RF" universal remotes only use RF to transmit to their own "base station", which then re-transmits IR to the actual devices. You can't directly control an RF device.

The only exception to this is the Harmony RF range, which will supposedly directly control a device which uses the "Z-Wave" protocol. However, not many devices use this protocol yet(I doubt your fan would), and I haven't heard of anyone successfuly doing it yet.

Not entirely correct. The Euro RF marketplace has a lot of gizmos to get to a solution, versus the US marketplace. The 433 mhz RF standard in Europe, etc. is prevelant while there is no prevelant RF standard in the US.

There are ways to get RF codes and put them into a some remotes. You may have to add an intemediate product to control the end product but many good reports from Europe on RF capabilities. I assume they will work in Australia?

Do a search in the Pronto NG forum about RF and pay particular attention to the UK postings.

as a suggestion, can you leave the ceiling fan on and simply control the power to it via IR? You can buy IR power points that come with a remote that can be learned. Of course you would be limited to 1 speed.
I guarantee I'll tell you the truth and I guarantee I'll tell you what you need to know but I can't guarantee that I'll be telling you anything you want to hear.

The one remote that's fully customizable and good, is the pronto. It doesn't do RF as far as remotes, but it is an RF remote that can communicate with an RF base station. I'm sure you can make some kind of code on the make hex for that a/c.

Dave - You obviously know what you are talking about so I am not doubting you..... just confused.

Even if the device did operate on a specific RF frequency the remote (any) is still essentially sending IR commands over a single RF proprietary packet. It is not sending RF commands. This type of control would take complete re-engineering of the remote, right?

The Pronto is not the only good customizable remote. Maybe one of the only full touchscreens, but by far not my favorite remote.

I really like URC's. The MX-series are wonderful. I like them a whole lot better than Prontos. I like the non-touchscreen LCD's.

And the MX-3000 is a good touchscreen remote.

Ali, if the a/c cannot be controlled by IR, how do you plan on using it with a Pronto hex code? You'd have to use ddarche's suggestion, and that's way over my head.
