Hi,

Currently I have a decora 3way dimmer switch at the bottom of my stairs and a normal decora toggle 3way switch at the top of my stairs. We have a chandelier light over the stairs that this controls.

My question is can I leave the decora 3way dimmer switch installed and set it at a specified dim level and then replace the upstairs normal decora toggle 3way switch with an X10 master switch and control the light with X10 so that when it comes on it will come on to the dim level set by the decora 3way dimmer switch at the bottom of the stairs?

Thanks
Bob

No. The Master must be used with a Slave for more-than-one-location use. However, many X-10 Masters (and singles) can be returned to the last-set level.

Come to think of it, it may be possible to use a non-dimming (i.e., fluorescent-capable) X-10 switch in series with a dimmer. (Neither need be 3-way for this.)

Thanks

I had the same thing. The other option is to put the main X10 RF switch for the lights at the bottom of the stairs, and then, since it's RF remote, you don't need a straight slave switch at the top. Put a 6 or 8 button controller there that not only controls those lights, but other lights in the area. Or, you can create macros with any remaining unused buttons. I used 6 switches on an 8 button controller to cover the entry light over the stairs, the bedroom hall, and the living room. Then I left the bottom two buttons open and programmed them as an ALL ON and ALL OFF buttons.

The 8 button without the integrated dimmer (don't need it if you purchase dimming switches) is $74. Here's the lincs:
