All,
I am thinking about purchasing a Denon 3805, Marantz SR7500, or SR8500 receiver to match up with Paridigm speakers. My family watches more movies than listen to music (60/40). Any thoughts on which one sounds best with Paradigms and where is a good place to purchase.

Thanks,
Bigdm

Hi Bigdm,

DDeca here again. Funny how we keep running into each other...

Anyway, we had TERRIBLE problems as a Marnatz dealer. Just this week I am sending in an SR-8200 for the second time in a year!! It smoked both from speakers (crossovers, woofer and tweeters!) on its way out. I cannot desbribe how much I would stay away from Marantz.

I would definitely look at the Denon and also check out the Integra DTR-7.4 or 8.4. These are very nicely built receivers that sound great and have many unique features. www.integrahometheater.com

DDeca,
Hey, I appreciate all the good advice you have given to me. From my post in the installer forum you know that I already have a Denon 3803 receiver so I was looking for another receiver to place in the bonus room and was thinking about the Denon 3805 when a local installer I was dealing with aboth the URC remotes mentioned that I should look at the Marantz receivers. He recommended the above 2 models. He mentioned that he has installed alot of those receivers and that his customers have been very pleased with the performance.

That's fine, I just wanted to give a little warning based on my experience only. If you feel that your installer will take care of you, then I wouldn't hesitate to take his recommendations.

My customer has had the bad luck of running into two bad Matantz products, a receiver and a DVD player. After the DVD player had already been sent for repairs twice and failed a third time, we replaced the unit with an Integra DVD player at our expence. We may now be doing the same with the receiver. Each time we have left him with loaners. While I feel bad at having recommended "step-up" products like Marnatz and then having sooo many problems with them, at least my customer knows he is being taken care of, no matter what.

So just make sure you feel your installer is going to take care of the system and is an authorized dealer.

Hopefully Denon will rub off on Marantz now that they own it.

Which Paradigm's do you have? I carry Paradigm, Marantz, Yamaha, and Denon. In most cases my first choice would be the Marantz would typically recommend the Marantz SR8400. Performance wise I feel the Marantz clearly outperforms the Yamaha and Denon and it has a better remote (although not as flashy). The downside is no automated setup like Denon and Yamaha. If you are not comfortable with manual setup and using a db meter, the Denon or Yamaha will setup easier and sound better. If you enjoy the setup details involved with the Marantz, or are using a well qualified installer, I have no doubt the Marantz is the best choice.

I agree that Marantz is great when working, but they've had a horrible record lately with failing components.

Hello Keypadman,
I just bought a Marantz SR 7200 without a remote.
I hooked up all of the speaker wires to the surround terminals and only my
front speakers work.
I thought that I needed a remote to turn on all of the stuff.
I was told that the Radio Shack 8in1 universal remote will do the trick but
I couldn't access the on screen
lists.
Can I do this with this remote or do I need a Marantz remote to access
everything?
Thanks, Buzz Hebert

SHould of Startd a New thread..... THis has nothing to do with the questions above...

ANyway, your gonna need either a OEM Marantz remote, a universal remote like a Pronto or MX-850(Maybe the other MX's have the codes I dunno) Or a LOT of time and patience with that One-For-All.... You should post this on the One-for-all forum as someone probobly has the COde sequence you need to enter and a cross refererence for buttons.

i use Marantz and Paradigm on almost all my ht installs and rarley have a problem and the 7500/8500 have the auto configuration. I find the Denon to be too bright. Marantz did have a problem with the dvd 4400. they replaced the few i sent back with brand new 4500s. just my 2 cents

One other thing to consider is support. Call both - see who provides better/quicker support and response times.
