Hi all,
I cannot seem to run bog-standard stereo sound from my TV to the amp. Everything else works fine (optical, co-ax, DVD, DD, DTS, blah blah) but if I watch basic analogue TV the composite audio out phono cables don't appear to feed anything to the amp. The TV is a Thomson Widescreen 32" (sorry, can't remember model #) and the amp a Denon AVR1601. I tried running through the amp's setup routines(although I'm no expert with them), and checked for anything relevant on the TV, but no joy. I've tried two different sets of phono cable, and using different audio-in sockets on the amp. Short of reporting dodgy audio-outs on the TV (I will be testing this with another amp asap), Has anyone any suggestions please?

Incidentally, anyone know where I can mail-order an optical TOSlink cable for the xbox in the UK?

Thanks very much!
Dan.

You might want to check to make sure the audio out cables are connected to a "fixed" and not a "variable" audio output of the TV. If the TV only has one output (like a HI-FI audio out), it is possible you may need to go into the TV's setup menu and change some audio settings. You want the output to be set to "fixed"

Hope this helps,

JJP

Dan, first of all, there is no "composite audio", it's composite video, the yellow jacks. You want the red and white jacks.

That aside, be sure the jacks on the TV you're using are indeed outputs, and not inputs. Usually, the audio inputs are grouped with a composite video input, and the audio outputs are without a corresponding video jack.

Also, it may be that there is a speaker on-off switch that must be off for the audio outputs to have audio on them. I suggest exlporing the menus on the TV for possible output configurations. Check the owner's manual, too.
