I am looking for 5 speaker system to go with my Yamaha RX-V995 receiver. How does the Paradigm speakers rate and are the Reference series worth the extra money? I have listed my speaker configuration below. Also, please recommend any other speaker that is comparable.

2 - Bookshelf size for fireplace mantle
1 - center channel
2 - To mount on wall for rears

I have the Paradigm Monitor 7's for the front and the Monitor 3's for the rear. The Monitor 7's are definately not bookshelf size, but I can tell you that they sound absolutely fabulous. The Monitor 3's pack a decent punch for their size, and they just might fit on a mantle.

I had compared the Monitor 7's with the NHT supertwos's, both towers. I thought the paradigms maybe had a little more bass extension, but overall in clarity and tighter bass, I liked the NHT's. SO I purchased a pair, along with the supercenter. For rears, I purcahsed cambridge soundworks, surround 1, has a dipole/bipole switch, good price and is seamless with the NHT's. You can't go wrong with the paradigms, they are a good manufacture, just my opinion..

Go test-listen the Mini-Monitors and CC-370 centre speaker. Try one of their smaller speakers for surrounds, Atoms or Titans. If you like dipoles check out the ADP-170's. The Mini-Monitors really kick for small speakers! Best wishes, Rachael!

I too have Monitor 7 V2 for my front and Mini monitor for rears.

When I went to shop for speakers, I generally found that Paradigm provided the best sounding speaker at my price range.

Do they make the best sounding speakers? No, but for the money, they are really hard to beat.

I also have the Yamaha RXV800 receiver, and it drives the paradigm without any problems.

But with any audio equipment, you defintely have to test drive first before you buy. Some store will even let you bring speakers home to test them.

The Monitor series is just out in version 2 as well. I have all Paradigms and love them. Good quality. Good price. But you have to listen, listen, listen! :-)

The quality of your speakers is the most important aspect of the sound of your system. However, the quality of a speaker's sound is mostly a subjective matter.

For my money, the Reference Series Paradigms are well worth the extra cost. You have to make your own judgement on that, though. Listen to them both, and then decide. When I heard the difference between them, I made the decision to buy my speakers in stages, rather than all at once.

I couldn't afford to buy 5 channels of Reference all at once, so I just bought the front pair. Later, when I could afford it, I got the CC. I'm still using Cambridge Soundworks Surrounds, but will replace them with Paradigms eventually. It will take longer to do it this way, but I get the pleasure of hearing the vast improvement that each speaker purchase confers.

Like GregoriusM said, Listen, listen, listen. Not to us, but to the speakers.

They sound fine to ME, but let your ears be the judge. What's good for the goose ain't always good for the gander. I don't like their subs, though. Stick with M&K.

I have a pair of Moneter 3's. I am going to be getting the mini's for the rear. Before I got them, I listened to both the Paradigm's and NHT's. To me, the Para's just seamed to open up a lot more then the NHT's. But, trust your own ears. Listen to several diffrent speakers, and pick the one that sounds best.

Paradigm is alot of speaker for the buck.. I own Studio100's v2, StudioCC, StudioADP's, Studio20's and the Servo15w/x30 controler They are all in the rosenut veneer except the Servo and center I guess your already guess im using the AVR5800. I will tell you right now you will not find a better speaker unless you spend a heck of alot one thing though.. If you like the finish just as much as the sound "DONT BUY THEM" Although the rosenut is very nice and THICK they are still very much a plain box! And yes I would spend the extra to go referance but only if you have a very good receiver or pre/power amp combo
