Does anybody know of discrete power codes for the new Bell Express Vu 3100 sattelite receiver? It appears to be an Echostar OEM model. Any clues?

Thanks,
Dave

There are no discrete codes for Power for these satellite receivers... at least none that they've made public.

Mike,

Thanks for the quick reply, although not the answer I was hoping for!

Any known work arounds for this device? I have worked out some 'discrete' macros for power and input switching on my TOAD Toshiba DVD and TV so I'm still hoping.

Dave: Yeah, I feel yer pain.

Any URC with macro capability. You would require two macros, one for turning stuff on, and the other for turning it off.

Or you get a Harmony from EasyZapper when it comes out; check out the Universal Remotes forum here for information. It is a "state-control" remote: it knows what state your Devices are in, so you don't have to worry about discrete codes. ... Mike

Mike,

This is to set up a Pronto, so macros are no problem. What would the macro sequence be though??

I know for the Toshiba set I have, pressing power>power (on Macro)with a short delay between the commands works great - there is a 'dead period after the command is issued during which the tv will not respond to other incoming commands. Is this the same for the receiver?

Thanks,
Dave

The macro sequencing would depend partly on which devices do use discrete codes, if at all. Let's say they don't. In that case, only one Macro would be required:

- TV power
- Satellite box power
- TV set to channel 3

This leaves the Pronto in TV mode, so your channel buttons would need to be "punched through" to the Sat box.

To turn all off, of course, hit the Macro again. Of course, problems start when one of the Devices is out of sync. That's what makes the Harmony so handy.

You could create several Macros, each designed to "re-sync" one device, but oh what a pain. Easier just to get up and click the Device itself.

If you have any Discrete code-activated Devices, your second macro would include Power Off commands where the Power commands are in the first Macro.

I would set the Macro commands up in that order to bypass the time delay when turning on the TV. The same may or may not be true for any of your other Devices; it's not really a "dead" period, it's just that it takes a certain amount of time for the Device to do its thing. Adding a delay in the Pronto has the same effect, except that it takes the Macro longer to work through. ... Mike
