Panasonic x51 STB works fine as well, if you can find one. It uses component out. I haven't heard of anyone using the Pioneer in-set tuner yet.

bb & Dan, thanks for the recommendations. As I understand, I do not need to purchase the Pioneer SH-D09 DTV tuner to receive HDTV from DirectTV! Correct?
I live in a remote mountain resort in New Mexico and don't expect to ever get local HDTV. Therefore my only source for HDTV will be sat. Please respond that I am correct not needing the Elite DTV tuner ---- only a DTC-100 or Panasonic x51 STB?

I believe the RCA DTC-100 is the only DirecTV and HDTV combo out there. Neither Pioneer nor Panasonic have released such a unit yet. If you buy the RCA, you may need service codes for your TV in order to adjust the horizonal position of the picture, or you may get lucky and only need the service menu for the DTC-100 (call RCA). If you have component inputs then you will need a VGA to Component converter - buy the audio authority unit for $139. It works and is relatively cheap. Make sure you understand the return policy of the companies from whom you buy your equipment. If things do not work out, you want to easily return the units.

yes you are correct in NOT needing the optional tuner for the 710. it ONLY recieves local (antenna) HDTV broadcasts. I've got at pro-700 and am waiting for the new sat systems from hughes and sony to come out that are HDTV compatible. check out Orbit.com for more info on these.

Adrain is right. The best thing to do right now is sit tight and wait for some more offerings. We're all looking for a single box that does DirecTV HDTV, OTA HDTV and has component outs. These will be coming soon from the major manufacturers.
