It's a multi-directional design... which may be a good or bad thing depending on your terrain.

More specifically, the ABC, CBS, and NBC stations broadcast on VHF, while most others are UHF. This means I need a combo antenna, but which one??

I'm using the a vertical stack of two Televes DAT-75 antennas. I had to get them shipped from Europe.

None of the TO/Buffalo stations broadcast HD on VHF.

I'm using the antenna that came with the hdtv wonder (I think it is an OEM Silver Sensor).

I have it pointed near a window facing south towards the lake (Less than a KM away) on the 15th floor with no balcony (And no physical obstructions in the line of sight) so an outdoor deal isn't in the cards.

Height like that really helps! :-)

Great work on the channel map - it helped me when setting up my HDTV. I got a 27" Sanyo HDTV with built in HD tuner from Wallmart for $580! I got it mainly to use with my X-box. Decided to get an antenna and try out the HD tuner - Holy cow!! The OTA picture is amazing. I'm using a Terk TV 32 mounted on the side of my house. I get every available channel accept Hamilton at over 70%. The only issue I have is CITY TV sound takes a minute to kick in - wish they had 5.1 The sound is amazing on the 5.1 stations. Reminds me of when I was a kid growing up in Grimsby, all we watched were mostly US stations by aerial, then we got cable and the US influence dwindled - now back to an aerial and nearly all US stations- Canada is missing the boat on HDTV!

Thanks! City's sort of undecided on 5.1 for now, relating to cost... considering that CBS' whole east coast just had their first 5.1 scripted show on Monday (CSI Miami) I guess it's understandable.

Newbie here from Mississauga...I just purchased a HDTV receiver (Samsung SIR-TS160) and using it with a Radio Shack indoor antenna (15-1880). I get CBS, CityTV, and Toronto1 pretty consistently but want to get more channels.

I was wondering if there's any opinion out there on the Terk antennas that clip onto satellite dishes, namely the Terk42 or Terk44...I figure this would be the easiest way since I already have a dish installed on the outside...Thx.

As far as I know, the clip-on dish antennas DON'T really perform that well for long range reception. However, I've never used one.

Thx Daniel...would this mean that I won't likely get Buffalo-area HDTV channels? What would you recommend as the next easiest step? I don't think I'm ready/skilled for a roof-top antenna yet...

Sorry, just not that experienced with small antennas - in my location I need a big massive one to pick anything up. :-)

Sigh... I wish there was more than one person at WUTV that knew how to handle HDTV - whenever it's vacation time there's no HDTV!

I live in Scarborough literally a block from Lake Ontario and I am unable to receive any HD ota signals.

I have a monster htpc setup with ati x800 graphics card, hdtv wonder card, dvi capable lcd monitor.

I installed the hdtv card with mmc (multimedia center software from ati). During setup I did an autoscan for signals with the supplied silver antenna. Nothing.

I bought Radio Shack's most expensive indoor antenna. Nothing.

The house I am in has a roof top antenna, so I thought I would try that. I located the cable in the basement. It is a flat 1" wide cable with 2 copper leads coming out of it. I bought a gizmo at radio shack that had a coaxial connection at one end and two leads at the other end. I spliced the 2 leads to the wire to the rooftop antenna. I then connected that to the indoor antenna from Radio Shack. Nothing.

I see by the map that there is a HD receiver in Oshawa. Shouldn't I be able to get something?

Any suggestions?
