Could you expand on the reason not to use multiple antennas?

I am near Broadview Station in Toronto and am using Antennas
Direct Terrestrial DB4 pointed to the CN Tower, DB8 aprox.
25 degrees south east of that and another DB8, another
25 degrees to the left of that. I am using 2 combiners
and an signal amplifier.

I am receiving these digital station that with just one
DB8 I was only able to receive only a fraction of these
stations.

2.1; 2.2; 4.1; 5.1; 7.1; 7.2; 7.3; 9.1; 17.1; 17.2; 17.3;
23.1; 29.1; 29.2; 49.1; 49.2; 57.1; 65.1; 66.1

I am suprised your not getting french CBC 24.1 from your location. The combiner could be messing with that signal. I tried signal combining in the past and I found that some stations would interfere with others. In my particular scenario I was combining a 4221 and 4228 at perpendicular angles to each other.

The issue with say, two antennas pointed in different directions is that their signals may be destructive by the time they hit your TV set(s). By destructive I mean the phase of each won't be complimentary so you end up with *less* signal than you would otherwise if you were using only one antenna. I've never played around with multiple antennas in TV but certainly have in other wireless services. I can see that some experimentation would be in order to optimize everything if you don't have a radio test set at your disposal. In your case, I'm guessing, that the difference in signal from the antenna pointed towards Buffalo vs that pointed toward the CN Tower (on the USA frequencies) is so great that no destructive interference comes in. The CN Tower (and 1st Cdn Place) signals are going to be very strong from your location so once again guessing that any signal straying in from the Buffalo antenna is not strong enough to override that from Toronto. Note that whether the frequency is constructive or destructive is frequency dependent so you could have a case where only some channels are weak. Placing amplifiers on each antenna will certainly isolate them from one another and get around the problem of reduced signal due to using splitters with no isolation (most).

thank you for the explanation.

I forgot, I do get 25-1. I have it blocked because I do not speak French.

I agree there is a loss/weakness in analogue signal, if fact some of the analogue channels have because unwatchable since I added the 2 antennas, but all my digital HDTV channels come in strong enough that it is not a issue with me. and I do not watch any of the analogue stations.

I tried first with one antenna. I went on the roof and slowly change directions and had someone check signal strength and found I receive only a few of the channels I now receive.

On Hamilton Mountain here with my tower and rotor set up money well spent 10 years ago. 17.1.2.3 pbs and any sign of fox 29.1 have disappeared for me have they lowered their power output or something. they semmed to disappear shortly after i startd recieving city and global at decent strength. Could they be knocking down the buffalo signal or could ch11.1 digital be interfering? Im about 8km from the ch/ sun/crossroads tv tower transmitter.

I'm in lower Soney Creek at Winona and I am not having any trouble getting any of the Buffalo stations. (I can't get the Rochester stations) I'm using a delhi 925 with a preamp on a 40' tower and rotor. I have noticed that I recieve 57 better if it's pointed toward the buffalo stations, don't know why. The ch 11 transmitter is basically 180 deg from buffalo so it doesn't cause interference for the buffalo stations.

Pleasiasaurus, this is almost certainly a case of signal overload. You're so close to Ch11 that I'm not sure of the best strategy to get your 2 Buffalo stns back!

On many antennas, 180 degrees off is actually the 2nd strongest position to pick up a station from.

Recently started experimenting with a different atsc tuner. My samsung sir-t451 was having problems picking up the chch 18.1 signal but picked up the global 65.1 signal fine. I switched to a sv8000hd and it picks up chch 18.1 great but cannot grab global 65.1 at all. I have come to the conclusion that my sv8000hd is having problems with the fact that global is the only HD ota channel in the Toronto/Buffalo area not remappingor using call letters. Is remapping and call letters one of the functions of the PSIP data stream? All the other ota channels have call letters and remap. Is this a temporary issue with Global?

The other channel that does not have call letters for me is CTS 35.1.
I don't get 18.1, the signal is to weak for me, but Global 65.1 does show call letters. I get CII-HD from them last time I scanned.

On the topic of CIII-DT. Is anyone else having trouble picking up a signal using a Microsoft media centre pc? I'm using a usb atsc tuner. All other HD/DT channels come in fine. My atsc stb tuner picks up CIII-DT fine @ (75%). So I know it's not an issue with acquiring a proper signal. I've programmed the Channel in Media Centre as the following;

45.1 virtual channel
65 as the frequency

Thanks

Fehral (p.s. If you have MS Media Centre on your pc along with a ATSC tuner and need help setting it up. Please take a look at this link. Some special configuration is needed to get MS Media Centre ATSC support to paly nice in Canada)

Try [Link: sensuz.com]. I bought a HD Homerun there without any problems. Very responsive customer service via email and pickup is a UPS store in Markham.

I sometimes have trouble getting Sun tv to come in properly from the ch tower even though the signal is up at 92%. Fox mytv and pbs seemed to disappear right when city and global started coming in very well. It's perplexing to me because it is as if pbs and fox digital dissappeared completely not even a hint of signal when I tune to 14 or 34 or 43. Prior to this they at least register as digital and the psip sent me to 17. or 29.1 or 49.1 respectively. Now I get zip zilch not even a sniff.

I have the same problem. This was working about a week ago. I tried 65.1 also as the virtual channel and that doesn't work either. I have my antenna on a splitter and my TV picks up global with no problems, it's just media center that is having the problem.
