I am writing my first 7000 config. I have decided on a task based design. My problem is I have an older Toshiba TW56H80 and have no discrete power codes. What I thought about doing was after selecting a task like TiVo or DVD have the remote jump to a screen asking if the TV is on. Yes would just return and no would send the power ir signal and return. What I am not sure can be done is jump to the TV power screen and then return to a macro on the button first pressed where it left off. I wanted to use the fewest pages to do this. Any suggestions on the best way to get this to work?

First off, you can't interrupt a Macro and then have it continue where it left off by using Browse Backward.

What you should do is to break your Macro into 2 or more parts. Part #1 does all actions up to the point where you query the user for power status. Then, based on the user's answer, you must then execute Part #2 (Yes) or Part #3 (No).

A note about Browse Backward and its history.

Older Marantz Remotes allowed Jump Backward in an Action List along with other Jumps. However, on the TSU3000/7000, Browse Backward is considered a Special Action and may not be combined with any other item in an ActionList. Furthermore, Special Actions are not executed if the button containing the Special action is the target of a Link from another button.

Thanks. I think I got it now. The Home page selection will have to jump to one of 6 TV Power status pages that will also include the rest of the macro to change to the required input and power up required components. I thought I could do this with 2 pages but it looks like that was wishful thinking.

One other thought. Asking the user "what they want to do" and "what is on now" will get you through a lot of decisions and get you past the missing discretes. It is a bigger programming job but it works great for me.

ScottDav,

Download the Pronto Edit Users guide from the Pronto Files section. Either this document or the Marantz RC5000i documentation provides a good discussion on the "Help Screens" that Dave mentions above. The ultimate pronto guide is also a worthwile investment for pulling together alot of info into a single document.

Thanks everyone for all the tips. I did buy the Ultimate Guide and I'm slowly working on this one device at a time. So far I have the Home page and TV Power question working plus a TiVo setup I am happy with.

I had the old 1000 model years ago but it walked off when we were having our kitchen redone. Back then someone had recommended a rapid sequence of power off/on for the Toshiba. I think the idea was that if it was off I think it wouldn't react fast enough at some point and povided the individual on and off code. I didn't like the rapid on/off and took it out.

The guided "What do you want to do" system looks good.
