I am thinking about buying a Neo but I am concerned about the 1M memory available for the software, IR codes and user defined settings. Has anyone run into memory limitations? Can anyone tell me an estimate of how many devices with user defined commands and macros they have successfully programmed before running out of memory.
The on-line manual for the Neo indicates that it is possible to see how much memory remains available. Has anyone checked this right out of the box? In other words, does the remote's software and IR codes take up 25%, 50% or more of the 1 megabite of flash before the user gets to define anything?
Finally, with the use of NeoEdit can a user get rid of all of the useless IR codes for equipment they don't posses to regain valuable memory?

i think i can answer your question without really digging much. i've been programming the neo since it came out and have developed alot of my own BMPs. the fact that the NEO isn't really very powerful (when compared to the regular pronto) limits what your imagination will be able to think up. first, the resolution of the screen (about 96x128 with only 4 shades of grey) limit the memory required for buttons.
if you try to reduce the size of the buttons so you can make more functions on one page, you'll find the accuracy of the screen a problem, ie: you'll press the wrong button. philips says not to put more than 30 on one page, but in reality, the maximum usable buttons are 15. i place 12 on a screen. perhaps with future updates, you'll be able to come up with more memory intensive things, but for now you'd rack your brain thinking of them once you determine the units features (and limitations). honestly, if i could find the regular pronto for just a few bucks more i would have gone that way but i was just strolling thru best buys when...

and to answer your question reguarding the universal codes, they are not stored in the 1mb of "ram" they are store on another chip, so out of the box with the 8 (or so) devices with 5 screens for each device memory usage was only at 2% (I think, can't remember)

I stated with a blank slate, as I deleted everything out of the default.ncf save for one function that I needed. My system consist of the RCR Utv, RCA rear projection Tv, and the Sony 200 DVD changer.

I have over 48 Favorite channels and 180 DVD's all set up with macros plus a few others and I have around 30 learned ir codes as the rest were in the datebase that came with the Neo. All the macros use links as this takes less memory as the IR code is then only used once.

On the Neo remote it says 100% memory free under the last page of the setup screen...

So if this is showing me an accurate reading, Id say you would be hard pressed to use up all the memory! Even the Pronto ts1000 with 1meg of ram I believe rarely runs out, and with the NEo you can't have bitmaps on the main device screen and the bitmapes you do have are smaller, so I'd say that it would be the least to worry about.
